I just shot ~150mg of OxyContin. I registered fine and began to push down the plunger, about 1/3 of the way through there was more resistance for a bit and then it started going in again, but it was stinging a bit. I've never felt stinging when IVing so this was weird. I finished the shot, didn't get as good of a rush and I'm not as high as I usually would get off this much (it felt like the amount that went in without a hitch, 50-70mg). After words the injection site felt a bit hard and my hand got some pins and needles (which have now subsided). I'm thinking I may have IMed about 80-100mg. Does it sound like that to you guys, or am I over-reacting here? What should I be looking out for and what is the likely impacts of this? What can I do right now to help reduce problems? I washed the injection site with soap and water already and applied some Polysporin.

Thanks guys. :)

keep whatever part it is elevated, apply a warm compress (hot water on a wash cloth) and rub the area to speed absorption.

I hope you know that it is impossible for 150mg of OC to fit in any less than 2.5mL of water, so I hope that was a big shot, or more than half is still left in the mixing container/ spoon.

Go to the hospital if it gets painful/ hot to the touch, or redness/ swelling persists or spreads.

OK, thank you. I wasn't aware of that actually, I only had 0.7ml. Thanks for the tip in the future and I'll follow your tips.

^ I've read it was 100mg/ml, though frankly I don't see how it could be that high. 60mg/ml sounds right, the same solubility as morphine.

Here, this is the source for 100mg/ml:

Some people agree with that, but, FRANKLY I think grinding 3 roxi's in a fucking spoon and claiming to have gotten all 90mg is bullshit, and an example of the notorious "placebo effect" :\

OK, so it's been a little over 2 hours. I gave it some good rubs/massage, put on a hot compress, which was very hot, and I think I may have given myself light 1st degree burns. After I took it off I did some reps with a 15 lb weight also. It was irritated after the heat and a red sort of rash came. The area hurts too, but it seems to be subsiding. I'm guessing redness and some pain is to be expected if I IM, but so long as it doesn't hurt a lot and seems to be subsiding I'm probably OK to not go to the hospital, right? I'm gonna keep a close eye on it, but I'm wondering 'when' exactly this should really get looked at if it's not getting better or worsens?

24 hours.

I would use a warm compress for more time, like 30 minutes. you will probably have to heat it up a few times.

OK thanks, it was on for about 5-10 minutes 1.5 hours ago and I just had it on again for 5-10. I will heat it up one or two more times tonight before bed, and keep a close eye on things tomorrow.

if that was true than why would i get way higher when i do 240mg in a ml than 60mg

It is true. At max you could argue 100mg, but even then you would have to filter t down to get 100% BA.

As far as why higher, well, I hate to say this, but... Placebo effect.

Sorry...

Just an update, last night a fairly significant area was red and it was a burning type pain which I wasn't sure was from the extreme heat of the compress or the OC, today the redness went down slightly, I had to work and my arm was bugging me, I was getting fairly worried, still felt a bit burning. This afternoon after work I put more Polysporin on it and had a nap, when I woke up the redness had shrunk to just a couple tiny spots and it's a dull pain now, feels like a bruise. I will apply more Polysporin tonight before bed, but my arm is fully functional, can extend it and contract it fully with just a little discomfort. Some swelling and dull pain in site of injection. It doesn't feel like something I would usually concern myself with so for now I'm gonna assume I'm in the clear and just keep applying Polysporin (couldn't hurt, right?) and keep a close eye on things for the next few days. Thanks for the help muvolution.

Can anyone explain to me why IMing Oxy can have severe consequences (or at least that is what I gather from this thread)?

I've only messed with needles once, and it was IM Dilaudid in a butt cheek.

Impure powders, or in the case of pills, insoluble binders and filler material will have a hard time leaving the muscle and could become a rallying point for infection. The primary bloodstream cycles the garbage out quicker than a muscle. If it's a shitty idea to IV the vast majority of pills, it's a fucking terrible idea to IM them. IM pure water soluble powders, or better yet, intended preparations in ampoules like the Demerol I'm so jealous of at the moment, only.

And to the OP, too much triple antibiotic cream will result in bumps, redness, itching and even burning if you apply it too often. I didn't become sensitive to it until I applied it to a particular spot daily, but once sensitized (I imagine some are born a bit sensitive to it), it can make an area look worse than it really is. Don't apply it more than twice a day, three times at most.

Edit: By the way, don't shy from applying ice for the swelling. You want heat to cause vascular dilation and help dissolve the substance quicker directly after the missed shot, but after that, ice is advisable for the swelling.

fuck a whole bunch of slamming crushed pills! shit can & will go wrong. lost my fingers to 10 crushed demerol.

So if someone uses a micron filter to prep the shot, is the risk still there for IM as far as actual pills go?

It's just never worth the risk. The only solids I IM are evaporated lab-direct ketamine and pure RCs (not all are), and even that isn't a great idea. Small insolubles (a pill can contain many different kinds) can get through places bacteria can't. If you have a pill you really want to inject and are willing to microfilter, you should just IV it unless it's a rare opioid you can only IM like demerol--in that case, swallow it instead ;) The muscle just takes way too long to clean house to expose it to anything that won't fully be in your bloodstream 10-15 minutes later. If only doing some pushups or lifting weights accelerated the cleansing process...

I hate to ask, but did you IM or IV it? The fact that it affected the hand suggests the latter.
