should i add water to my homemade pipe?

if i smoked crack out of this pipe i fashioned from a poasis bottle about 300 ml container, would it be wise to put some water in the bottom of it? To decrease some space because its a bit big unles im ripping a g rock. Also i just saw it posted in another thread someone says "also put some water in the bottom" im not sure why he said he liked to do that maybe someone could provide that info?

Not Necessary

Besides reducing the amount of space, I wouldn't think it has any benefits. Crack is not water-soluble, therefore you cannot filter it with water like you would with marijuana and a bong, you would only end up losing some of your goods. Unless you find it too harsh on your throat/lungs and would like the soothing effects of the water, I would refrain from using any.

In a homemade (bottle) crack-pipe I have always assumed the water is there to reduce the space so you have less to breathe in and can get a bigger hit. The vaped crack doesn't bubble through the water or anythimng, it's purely to make the space smaller.

That's the only benefit I can see that it would have. I own a couple store bought crack pipes, but when I have to make one myself, I just use an empty soda can and some cigarette ash...
