For real anxiety benzos help, quite a bit. SSRI's can help as well, but take time and aren't sedating like benzos. As you describe your anxiety, both of these drugs could be of great help to you. Benzos aren't the devil if used properly (doctors don't always know how to do this). Taking a benzo around the clock is A-okay in my opinion, if done cautiously and safely. For you in addition to a benzo for anxiety relief, I would advocate the use of one for sleep, either as needed or every night depending on severity of insomnia. 0.25 mg Klonipin TID and 5 mg Ambien qHS (at bedtime) + an SSRI of doctors choice (Prozac is a good one.) I think would do the trick for you. Maybe even a little more Klonipin. I'm just writing my thoughts on your case. In any case, a benzo seems like it could help you.
