NEWS: Fair Work Australia consents to forced drug tests for building workers

That's pretty bad then. Assuming that 300,000 are always under the influence then they have caused around 15%(? That's taking out people that did it once and caused an injury) of injuries in the workplace.

Also that is drugs AND alcohol, would be interesting to see the stats for alcohol and drugs separate.

^ It's not saying that 300,000 people are always under the influence at work; just that 300,000 alcohol and drug abusers are in full-time work. The definition of 'abuser' could be quite broad.

I thought it said addicts not abusers lol.

Yeah well that's fuck all then really. A separate meth one might be far more interesting

Haven't read the thread but im in commercial building, the CFMEU wont take long to use their militant tactics to get the legislation thrown out. Their so moronic they think stopping building sites under the guise of safety concerns pleases workers. The large majority of subbies wish the union would fuck off, i mean their staff were too stupid to finish an apprenticeship so they illegally enter sites acting like jerk offs.

The day I support drug testing is the day they can detect those under the influence compared to those who had a great weekend and three days have passed since....

We need some wealthy person with a fighting attitude to challenge the law until the right tests can be performed. As far as I am concerned, a construction or mining worked who enjoys a bit on their day off but is stone cold sober when they present to work should not be punished.

Why can't the Government just stop getting in our shit. This is why I didn't vote for Gillard!
Hey guys, how about I give you guys a Carbon Tax, even though I said I wouldn't, continually raise the cigarette and alcohol taxes practically every month, and in the ACT they're taking away all our fucking plastic bags as well!
The government doesn't know what to do, so they think just doing any fucking thing will make us happy, oh man I am so sick of this shit.

Workplace drug-testing should start, very publicly, right at the top. If blue and white collar workers have to submit then so too should our politicians and members of the AFP and state police forces. If there is already a drug-testing regimen imposed on our legislators and law enforcement then they should go public with it and tell the rest of us how they have no problem with being regularly tested. Not a snowballs are they all clean; that's just plain illogical, so you could imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth if these institutions had to attest to their straightness in the media.

As others have said I would not have a problem with the testing if it was for current intoxication. But the current urine testing they use can fuck off and die! All I have seen it do is encourage people to switch from smoking cannabis to smoking meth.

Current intoxication seems the go, but the tests don't work like that do they, they pick up some drugs from a while ago.

Thing that gets me is who decides this shit, i mean its ok to force test building workers so they rekon, but so many other jobs dont have to do it, like that neuro surgeon guy that was into rooting prostitutes and having copious amounts of coke. He ended up OD'ing two of em the sick fuck. I guess he wasn't undergoing drug tests was he? And the work he was doing would have been vitally important article from last year about the surgeon

yeah, oops i should have read it all before posting that. Seems he only started getting tested (for drugs) after the fact it was found out he was a coke fiend. And still he kept working and doing coke and seeing pros.
Yeah a major asshole.

On another thought, imagine if they did drug tests for the dole? lol.
