I don't smoke meth but if it's anything like trying to heat up a dab rig with the dab already in the bowl, it will sometimes run up the sides.

I always figured this was due to uneven heat distribution and the substance would cool and congeleal around the edges away from the bottom.

Perhaps if your pipe is old it could be heating up unevenly

Probably too late to be of any help, but the "flame fleeing streaks" are n-isopropylbenzylamine aka NOPE.

Unfortunately it looks almost exactly like the real stuff, and has a close melting point.

Two (usual) giveaways are: rectangular crystals
easy to crush

Oh, and running from the flame, of course. Literally will run UP cold glass to get away from it.
