What great band have you just discovered?

Woah, that song was awesome. Thanks for enlightening me 2many :) I'll have to check them out

Emancipator - lovely to the 1st degree

Agreeeed. My favourite tracks by him are First Snow and Anthem (from Soon It Will Be Cold Enough). I can't even put into words how First Snow makes me feel. The voice samples at the beginning and end are perfect, and make me think about death.

fever ray

Nice one. You listened to The Knife as well?

blouse
twin sister
telepathe
the submarines

All these bands that I've recently discovered, fit the sound that I'm currently enjoying: Lively, dreamy indie pop driven by instruments, synths and female vocals.

Here's few nice ones i have discovered recently:

The Bug feat. KillaP & Flowdan - Skeng http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwmUOJR-GwA

Flowdan has the most bad ass voice ever:D The track is perfect as is the video. I just love listening jamaican english.

Bassnectar - The 808 Track (feat. Mighty High Coup) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdnBTJiUVDQ

Found out about this gem as I saw a youtube clip of Breaking Bad that used it as a background music. Great scene btw. I had watched the episode after it aired last summer but must have somehow missed it then. Though when watching it i was amazed by this track: Honey Claws - Digital Animal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH8GwAr-GZU It was on the same episode i think.

Latest and perhaps the greatest discovery belong's to a different kind of category. She's a great singer and has such a beautiful voice. What do you think? The video for video games track is very nice too. Mood

Lana Del Rey - Video Games http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE6wxDqdOV0

Lana Del Rey - Off to The Races http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XLHFiGauDY This not an official video for the track, fanmade i think. At first i thought the gunfight scenes from some movies were sort of wierd with this, but after watching it a few times, i think it fits just perfectly with the track. I wonder what movie/movies they are from? Looks like some older exploitation movie with very Tarantino kind of vibe. Looks like a really fun movie to watch...

Not new for me but worth sharing - Meshuggah - metal band. Really interesting use of poly-rhythms. Try their album Catch Thirty-Three.

Excellent grooves. Saw them a couple of years back. Everyone else was moshing hard around me and I was having a lovely disco style dance. Good memory.

Edit: Actually it wasn't a couple of years back - it was 2008. Time flies etc etc

Meshuggah - it's taken me about 2 years to get into them but finally i have seen the light. These guys are pioneers of polyrhythmic/progressive metal. Genius drum patterns and 8 string guitar arrangements. About as heavy as it gets but if you can appreciate it, it's gold...of this genre anyway. Seeing them in April with Animals As Leaders...gonna be amazing.

yes! just saw this. glad there's someone else appreciating the epicness that is Meshuggah :D

Catch 33 and Nothing are my favourite albums atm. In Death is Life/Death is so sick..blew me away on first listen.

:D all seems a little quiet on the Meshuggah front at present. Guess that new album should be coming along :) Really hope they move back to the groove feel of Catch Thirty Three and Nothing (also my favourite albums). In fact Meshuggah and Tool are the only non-EDM music I listen to now. Used to be such a fan of metal but I suppose tastes evolve. Either way, 2012 should be a good year for Meshuggah / Tool fans.

Oh, as for another little band you may find interesting - Jakob - NZ instrumental band, toured with Tool. http://www.myspace.com/jakobmusic Malachite is awesome.

New album is out March 27th man :) and yeah, Tool should bring out their new record sometime this year also, so hyped for that. Same thing happened to me, I used to only listen to metal growing up, now I rarely find myself indulging like I used to. Mainly into instrumental and progressive bands now - Periphery, Animals as Leaders, Sikth to name a few.

Liking Malachite a lot man thanks for that link.

Also, check out Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects and their album Sol Niger Within (Link). It's Meshuggah's guitarist's solo project and it's dark as fuck but so good.

Thanks for the update re: the new album I might be a little out of the loop. Instrumental music is the way forward. Explosions in the Sky are good, as is Isis (when the guy isn't singing):)

Bought it from Thomas Haake's cousin at the 2008 gig - I'm such a nerd.

Find it a tricky listen but boy, some of the rhythms are insane - his drummer is awesome

Yeah both those bands are great. I prefer This Will Destroy You over Explosions though personally.

Haha nice one man. Yeah it's one of those albums you need to set aside the full 45min and fully embrace it. I rarely listen to it now, it's like a nice treat every now and then when I find myself in the mood for it.
