Turn that FROWN upside down jnr, or not. Why the upside down smile?

Bloody Commonwealth bank and their stupid overdraft fee of $30. If someone doesn't have enough money in an account and (accidentally) tries to take too much out isn't it a bit counter-intuitive to charge a big fee which puts them even more into overdraft? Hmm?? I really could have used that $30 :(

Time to swap banks. :)

NAB scraps overdraft fees

I think St George is removing them too (though I may be confused with some other fee)

I've been with Commonwealth since I had my Dolomite account. Also they were the only bank in my small home town that actually had an ATM (there is only one ATM in the whole town).

Are there as many NAB ATMs as there are Commonwealth ones? I would have to set up all my direct debits and stuff again. Sigh.

Less ATMs but at more locations. :)

NAB-Cuscal ATM network goes live
September 2, 2009

National Australia Bank and credit union automatic teller machine administrator Cuscal have joined their ATM networks after receiving interim approval from the competition watchdog.

NAB and Cuscal, the developer of the rediATM sub-network, said on Wednesday they had combined their ATM networks to create Australia's second biggest but most geographically dispersed ATM network.

The network will bring together NAB's 1700 ATMs with Cuscal's 1440 ATMs at more than 2900 locations.

It will be second only in size to Commonwealth Bank (CBA) and BankWest's combined network of about 4000 ATMs at 2800 locations.

The Westpac, St George and BankSA's combined network has 2800 ATMs, and ANZ Banking Group's network has around 2500 ATMs.

The combined network went live after the two organisations agreed to a non-cash deal in July, subject to approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

On August 21, the ACCC gave interim authorisation to an agreement between members of the rediATM branded sub network of 1440 ATMs not to charge each other's cardholders a fee for transactions made at members' ATMs.

The interim authorisation also allowed rediATM network members to coordinate the deployment of any new ATMs.

NAB is proposing to join the rediATM sub-network, the ACCC noted.

By granting interim approval, NAB and Cuscal can join their networks prior to the ACCC considering the substantive merits of the application, the ACCC said.

"It doesn't necessarily mean they will get final approval," an ACCC spokeswoman said.

NAB and Cuscal said full ACCC approval was expected later this year.

NAB's move to expand its ATM network followed criticism over the size of its network when the direct charge fee regime was introduced on March 3 by the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Under the regime, an ATM owner can charge the customer directly for the use of the machine but must disclose the fee prior to the transaction.

CBA, Westpac and ANZ now charge customers of other institutions $2 to use their ATMs.

NAB charges non-NAB customers $1.50 for a withdrawal and 50 cents for an enquiry.

NAB and rediATM customers currently pay $150 million in direct charge fees every year from around 190 million transactions at foreign banks' ATMs, the organisations said.

They conduct over five million transactions on each other's ATMs per year generating $10 million in direct charge fees.

I've never had worse customer service, on as many occasions, as with the Commonwealth Bank.

I took great joy in closing my account with them a few years ago and when they asked if there was a reason why, telling them that their customer service was the thing that drove me away.

Thanks Lil Angel :). Joannie I have noticed the customer service can be crappy too. I remember one day they accidentally closed one of my accounts (and temporarily stole my money) and told me they couldn't do anything about it until the next day. They then proceeded to inform me that I should just use money from my savings account, despite the fact that my interest goes down if I make any withdrawals from it. Grr. There are so many businesses around that are just completely evil or incredibly stupid or even a combination of the two. :X

I just hate that concept (and it's not just CBA, to be fair) of 'oh something happened, we can't do anything until the next business day'

it's complete bullshit, and if you argue it you can pretty much always get it reversed - they're just using your money for one more day of trading. it doesn't cost them any extra for your excess withdrawal (or intra-bank transfers etc) - they're just using that money and your thirty bucks along with shitloads of other people who made a mistake about how much was left in their account to have another gazillion dollars to trade on the markets to make profits we never see, or losses we feel in increased fees!

fuckers!

Yeah, they're real cunts. I was really pissed off about the account closing thing because it was completely their fault as well. Also, with the overdraft, I had plenty of money in another linked account that they could easily have taken it out of.

A guy who lives in my street was executed in front of his house last night.

Sad for his family and a bit of a shock for the street but at a more selfish level it meant I didn't get home from work until 11pm as the police where stopping residents coming and gowing and we ended up having to be escorted by police to the front door so we didn't tamper with evidence etc

After that it was non-stop action all night and its pretty hard to sleep when you have a real life CSI to watch.

Soooo freakin tired right now

^^ Me too!! We had a shooting just around the corner from us! I feel so ghetto right now.

Sad for his kids though :(

I caught myself a little virus this past week, and have had swollen glands and a sore throat for 7 days now. Am very sick of it =\

That's fucked Y, you need to track them down and kill them.

My frown is my massive amount of soreness. Drinking with my friends up the coast is always hectic. I got thrown off the balcony for fuck's sake. Luckily it was only about a metre and a half high.

I pity any any random who ever walks into a room we're in when things are in full swing.

Im thinking I need to start getting more then 6-7 hours sleep :(

I'm waking up everyday feeling like death :(:(:(
