The most disturbing film you have seen?

^ lol Nah! :) I just found Titanic really disturbing all that crappy, sickly, pseudo romantic, rubbish... it messes with me head, Argh!

Yeah.. the animal killing scenes were actually real

Wow , how amazing! 8)

^It's not something you see all the time in movies.. It had a touch "reality" in it.

You should watch it

I have yet to see Martyrs and Hostel (1 and 2).
I found Martyrs more disturbing than Cannibal Holocaust. The acting is so much better, there's a story instead of a ridiculous cavalcade of depravity, and of course the violence is more realistic (excepting the animal cruelty in CH). It's more like I Stand Alone: disturbing for more than just its violent sexual content. Granted, I was tripping, but Martyrs made me physically ill and the scenes towards the end kept popping into my head for days.

Cannibal Holocaust, despite depicting very disturbing things, was so purely exploitative and reaching in its attempts to shock that I found myself laughing at it. Martyrs at least has some point (don't tell me tacking on "who are the real cannibals?" at the end of Holocaust in any way justifies what preceded it). I've also read that the movie's depictions of the Yanamono are largely fallacious. If you want to be disturbed by primitive human garbage read about the widespread sexualized cannibalism and forced cannibalism of family members (including children) by soldiers in Congo. That's fucking real and worth your being sickened and appalled over. I watched CH because of its reputation and now have no desire to watch any more of its ilk.

Also, I would say Martyrs falls outside the "torture porn" genre. I haven't seen Hostel 1 or 2, but in reviews of Martyrs Hostel is always brought up as an example of definite torture porn to create a point of contrast for talking about what makes Martyrs unique.

I don't think I'll be seeing A Serbian Film. The idea of the director's, that it's about how the Serbian government "fucks its citizens from birth to death," sounds like a big stretch for justifying its reported deviant violent sexual content. If I'm going to be nauseated watching something it better be nausea that provokes at least somewhat justifiable feelings and ideas.

they are not the horror movie kind of disturbing, but Happiness and Dogtooth will make you shudder.

it's not disturbing, but Pretty Baby is the most shocking movie I have ever seen. To the point where I am surprised it is able to be legally possessed and distributed in the US.

I think Jacob's Ladder is more the kinda movie you want though, OP.

TBH Swelz, am not into watching Animals being killed in ''reality'' for my entertainment... just a line I don't personally cross...i'll leave it at that. :\

...

What I really love is when a movie really gets under your skin in a psychological sense

Dans ma peau

^ yeah, I have yet to see Dans ma peau too. I have the dvd.

Todd Browning's Freaks.

It's weird because it's an old movie from the 30's, but it haunted me for decades.

Havn't seen this yet but seen excerpts...The old black and whites and 70's ones can have more of an impact IMO. Definitely one for the watching list. :)

I bought it myself Lou, only watched it once though...It's very good, very creepy.

Movies like Funny Games

Ok I have seen the cube movies zodiac, seven, funny games, 9 dead, the killing room and more I'm looking for some more movies like 9 dead, the killing room, and Funny games. Also I want some music like that from Funny games the music john zorn naked city music like that and music from superjail.

Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom

About time someone said this. Not the most disturbing for me, but definitely a very sleazy film. It's not so much the things shown (everything's obviously faked) but the atmosphere of the film. It's hard to explain, the evil just kind of builds up all through it until it explodes.

What affected me the most about Salo was the scene at the end shot through the kidnappers binoculars, because it makes you their accomplice in watching.

The book is an interesting read too, but half of it is incomplete, just looks like a pervert's to-do list.

How about David Jacobson's Dahmer (2002)? That has what I would call "tasteful gore" -- not the focus, but just enough to put a knot in your stomach. Not what you might expect... it's actually very well written and directed, and the acting is quite good .
