btw i would like to see SL win whole thing on humanitarium grounds.

current probabilities for each team winning

.44 Aust
.18 SA
.16 NZ
.13 SL

so not a huge difference for the latter 3.

everyone should pray for a SL win --- it would make the world a better place.

I think South Africa are the only side capable of chasing down the type of targets Australia has been setting, and on form we should continue to dominate.

Australia hasn't been setting that high targets, especially with tiny grounds being used. And don't you remember Australia's lead up to the world cup? They set huge targets for NZ and England and couldn't defend them at all!

Hayden is batting well but he hasn't really been tested either. I'm looking forward to seeing their England game next weekend.

I'm hopeing for the Aussie Kiwi final!

West Indies are off to ok start, I reckon they'll get to around 240 but I hope they get closer.

Shane Bond is currently the best fast bowler in the world. Discuss.

The cricket world cup is as dead as Bob Woolmer, murdered by the ICC. Discuss.

It's fantastic that Bondy is back, I just hope he doesn't decide to get injured again. He is definitely one of the reasons NZ can win the cup.

I think this world cup has been fairly interesting... Ireland the giant slayers, the Asian teams failing, NZ perferming well, Australia performing well, a murder...., some old stoner giving McGrath the man of the match award (fucking funny!), and a double hat trick. Thats definitely not dead to me!

The downsides include games starting at midnight my time and only Australian games being on free to air tv.

Its funny how the smaller teams that got through have actually played a part in damaging this world cup, they're a big reason why attendances are down atm. I think the ICC should change the way this world cup is done, and have it be group stage at first then straight to a knock out competition, would be more interesting and it would get attendances up...anyone agree? Watching Ireland and Bangladesh lose pathetically in the super 8's gets tiring to watch.

Can't agree with that.

WI vs Aus was half full. If you can't get the locals excited for that game then you are doing something wrong.

I do blame the ICC. "Cleanskin" venues, top dollar tix prices, rules about bringing in food and no musical instruments. Next you'll be telling me you aren't allowed to be offered hootch by a Rasta taxi driver.

I guess we were lucky the official theme song even had a hint of reggea to it.

At least with super 8 rounds it gurantees the "best" teams will play each other at least once during the Cup.

Hopefully it will be a kick up the arse for India and Parkistan. They have been throwing too much weight around solely due to the large TV audiences they generate. Playing the race card, too many one dayer's with no meaning, match fixing (allege), dusty flat pitches that are impossible to bowl a team out on (ok, I'm being picky). Get your houses in order, pick your best teams and quit blaming the "English/white" establishment conspiracy.

Nz v SA looks like a cracker and a decnt test for the Kiwi bowlers. I have no doubt with their batting line up they can chase but I have doubts they can contain the Proteas batsmen. The slower pitches do suit guys like Styris and Oram. And finally with Bond there is a genuine fast bowler who can control the ball in the World.

^ I'm just basing that theory from what the commentators were saying, due to India and Pakistan having a larger cricketing audience than say Ireland or Bangladesh.

New Zealand... possibly, although apart from Bond & Vettori, we would take them apart as well.

Yeah, our bowling is our weak point. But it looks like Oram is coming back in form. Add in Styris, who's been bowling well and is suited for the conditions, and we've got four bowlers. We need Gillespie back from injury fast.

And remember we just beat you three games in a row. Sure, you were resting a few players and everyone was more interested in the world cup, but a win's a win. And we left Bond out of the third match as well. Then remember that Bond has always played two or three levels higher against Aus than against anyone else....The loss of Vincent hurts, though. But hopefully with McMillan, Taylor, McCullum and Oram we have enough big hitters to help us chase a big target.

I agree with you about Sri Lanka's merits (I've been praising Malinga for a long time; even if he gives away runs, he's unplayable at times), and they are a good bet to be in the final. But I'm really starting to think we might see an Aus-NZ final, which could potentially be a classic: Australia specialise in batting first and setting big targets, but NZ specialise in chasing big targets - whoever wins the toss, Australia will probably bat first. Could we see a final with 300+ runs scored by each side?

^ Thing is we've seen that match between NZ& Aus enough times already in the last few months.

Come on England! Impressive to bowl Sr Lanka out for 235 or whatever it was, didn't let it drop like they normally do. Now lets see how well we do with the bat. I sense Vaughan may get his first one day 100.

Our openers are shit, fuck Vaughan, Fuck Joyce. 11-2 fuck it. Damnit why do we always do this the hard way?

Oh well our start cost us I think, what a game though looks like were out.

True, but at least it would be exciting. Better than (say) NZ-WI from a few days ago, where we just nudge the ball around for 40 overs and win like that; better than watching the Aussies crush someone. (And better than the likely outcome - Aussies score 300, NZ get a good start but are out for 200 in the 45th over).

NZ v Australia in the World Cup final is totally different to the last few games they played. It's the pinnacle of the cricketing calender FFS!!! Plus all available players will be competing and the standard of cricket is guaranteed to lift for the big game.

I can understand the West Indians not liking the fact that ticket prices are very high for them, they can't smoke in the stadiums, musical instruments are banned, you can't get pass outs, and you can't take your own water in. It is the ICC stamping their mark on a tournament that should really be taking far more effort to include the Indies culture in how it is run. In a perfect world all the normal things that make Caribbean cricket the party it is, would be allowed.

However it's not. Good on them for showing that they are pissed off but why the fuck wouldn't you complain in other ways and just go and enjoy the tournament as it is??? This will be the last time that part of the world will be getting a world cup for decades. They should stop acting like little sooks and start turning up. If the cup was in Australia I can guarantee every game would be a sell out! I can't say the same for NZ as they can't seem to fill anywhere even when the All Blacks are playing. Maybe some countries shouldn't be allowed to have big events until they prove that people actually want to get off their arse and enjoy these things. Grrrr!!!!!

Because the ticket prices are between 50% and 100% of the average wage out there. Imagine being asked to pay £300 in England or $600 in the US. That's the rough equivalent.

The ICC messed it up. They've chased the tourist dollar even though they were told that crowds for all previous world cups had come from the local community.

The ICC are useless. Bit like England.

Go New Zealand. I like Bond, Oram, Fleming. Good luck to them.

Restrictions on spectators to be eased

Barbados determined to restore local flavour

Stung by criticism that the World Cup has been robbed of most of its Caribbean flavour by strict regulations, the local organising committee (LOC) in Barbados have hit back by announcing that restrictions would be eased at the Kensington Oval.

Stephen Alleyne, the CEO of the LOC told reporters that matches in Barbados would be closer to tradional "calypso cricket" than has been the case so far. He said that measures were being put in place so that music and food could flow more freely. For example, he said people bringing musical instruments would get clearance at the gate on the day of the game, rather than having to get permission beforehand.

In a break with the official line, which has continued to insist the tournament is running smoothly, Alleyne admitted that things had not gone so well at other venues. He also said that some matches at the Oval were not sold out, mainly because sponsors had not taken up their allocations, and that spare tickets would be made available free of charge to local children. Furthermore, he hinted that ticket prices might be reduced "to encourage more folk in" although that would need to be cleared with the ICC.

"We need to ensure that the environment is such that everybody in there, whether Barbadian, West Indian or from further afield, can get the chance to experience what it is like to be at a Caribbean Test match, or in this case at a Kensington Test match, and we are working with CWC and the ICC as we speak to get that balance right," he explained. "One of the things we are going to work to achieve is the bringing of musical instruments in - we're going to simplify that process. We're looking at how you can bring things like foodstuff and so on into the Oval [while] making sure there's clarity around those things."
