The trailer actually gave me a wee bit of hope. It looks fairly well done, and hopefully I won't be disappointed.

I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one comparing this to the Rum Diary for whatever reason :D

Perhaps because both authors became larger-than-life and that tends to overshadow their work at times.

A big reason why movies don't measure up well to their written counterparts is because it's impossible to accurately transpose certain things you find in print onto the silver screen. Kerouac has a certain rhythm & cadence in his writing; his prose reads like improvisational jazz. It's a big part of what made the book such an enjoyable read, for me at least. The film might follow the same narrative, but it could never recreate Kerouac's unique voice.

hmm from the 'spoiler' pics on tumblr looks like we get a bit of three way action and that's ~exciting~

garrett helund is going to be a fucking star after this movie.

^^^ it's already happening, like when destiny's child became famous and they put beyonce in the middle/front of all the photographs? sam riley is kelly rowland.

Is anyone aware of a US release date?

I heard this wasn't received very well at Cannes :|

At last.

After two years of waiting and waiting I got to wait some more before getting the chance to catch this tonight. I was thoroughly impressed and walked away entirely satisfied from this movie. The film captures the storyline in a way I really wasn't expecting, as I didn't go into it with the highest of hopes. Kerouac's long-winded narration throughout the novel is integrated throughout the film with no stone left unturned. Also, Mortensen plays an excellent Burroughs.

The novel has always held a special place in my heart. Reading it for the first time as a bored teenager felt like a shot in the arm; evoking a lust for life, adventure and a will to travel to new places. Watching the film felt nostalgic and very much the same.

I don't give films a 5/5 as a rule, so I'll give this one a 4.5/5.

The novel holds a special place in my heart as well...which is why I'll put off seeing the Hollywood Film as long as humanly possible.
Johnny Derp fucking up HST just broke me heart into a thousand fragmented pieces. *sniff* Never ....repair....

I dunno, there's always exceptions to the rule though...maybe it's good?
Oh hell, now I want to see it for myself....:\

Not like I can't turn it off after 10 minutes if it nauseates me...
'On The Road'...here we go....Good God help me...

^This isn't a Hollywood film and is produced by Francis Coppola. You shan't be disappointed.

I'll probably end up seeing this eventually...but there's no way I'm going to the cinema for it.

saw this film today and adored it.

the adaptation is charming and very true to the book.
