Kratom to be banned soon by DEA! How will it affect USA? v All kratom talk goes here!

Congressmen Pocan (D-WIS) and Salmon (R-AZ) have drafted a letter to stop the ban
Congressmen Pocan (D-WIS) and Salmon (R-AZ) have drafted a letter to stop the ban (copy of the letter here). We can save Kratom but we need your urgent help! Congressmen Mark Pocan and Matt

Salmon have drafted a "Dear Colleague" letter to stop the ban and they need your local Congressmen to sign the letter and support it as well. If it gets enough support, we will win this battle!

If you care about Kratom, it is very important to take action and urge your local representative to sign the "Pocan-Salmon Dear Colleague Letter". Follow the steps below to make an impact and urge
your local representative to sign. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO THIS ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH. The letter is to be distributed early in the week and Pocan/Salmon have asked kratom
supporters to take action ASAP. Time is of the essence. This letter will determine the fate of Kratom in our country. Lookup your local Congressman with your zip code by using this link. http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/

Call (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your local Congressman's office. It is not uncommon for an intern to answer these phone calls. Do not be nervous! Keep in mind that these people generally WANT to hear from their constituents and these phone calls are important. Explain that you would like your congressman to sign the "Pocan-Salmon Dear Colleague Letter" in support of Kratom for whatever personal reasons you choose. As a word of advice, be polite, keep it short and stick to the facts. Do not go off on a tangent about conspiracy theories. Keep in mind, it is this Congressman's job to represent YOU and if they want your support they need to do just that.

From AKA Director Susan Ash:

We have some great news that needs urgent action BY 5pm ET TUESDAY! We, with our lobbyist's help, have found some champions in Congress to write a bipartisan "Dear Colleague" letter asking the DEA to slow down this process. They are Congressmen Pocan of WI, who I met with the night before the March, and Salmon of AZ.

The letter asks, among other things, that the Director of OMB and Acting Director of the DEA delay a final decision on the placement of Kratom as a schedule I, provide ample time for public comment on this significant decision, and resolve any inconsistencies with other Federal Agencies regarding the use of Kratom. Click HERE to see the letter.

So this is what we need you to do!!! Find your Rep here and e-mail them over the weekend! http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/ Then use the number below to call YOUR representative first thing Monday morning. Tell them you are a responsible adult consumer of Kratom for help with ______ (ailment) and ask that they please contact Congressman Pocan's office to sign-on to the Pocan/Salmon Dear Colleague letter on this issue.

To call your Member of Congress:
US Capitol Switchboard (202) 224-3121
On a side note, we are just shy of a quarter of the way to our goal of $400,000 needed to pay for our powerful law (Hogan and Lovells), lobby (Upstream Consulting) and PR (Hastings Group) firms! If you would like to make a larger donation directly to this unified team we pulled together with the BLD/BEA, please add a note to your donation that it is for the Unified Campaign*. We will be distributing our plan of action involving all 3 firms early this week. Otherwise, your donation will go to keeping the AKA's "doors" open. Thank you to all who have donated thus far!

*If larger donors feel more comfortable donating to an escrow account for the Unified Campaign, that will be set up by Monday.

So we just have to call our congressman and try to speak to them and urge them to sign this letter??

Do we have to email them or is calling enough?

If we only talk to an intern (as I'd assume it's unlikely we'll reach our congressman) will that be enough if they tell the congressman to sign the letter?

And how would we find out if the congressman did or didn't sign the letter??

Also, do you have any idea how many congressman approximately would need to sign the letter for us to have a chance at stopping the ban??

How many congressman per state are there and how many from each state would we need to get to sign it for us to assume that that state is "on board" with keeping it legal??

Also, if do we REALLY only have 11 days to stop the ban??

I mean are we COMPLETELY INCAPABLE of making an impact on Kratom's legality after September 30th??

That just doesn't seem right or fair that we should have ZERO impact on it after the ban and I think we should be able to continue to be able to have our voices heard.

Is it impossible for enough people to complain even after Sept. 30th that the ban could be overturned or pushed back or do we literally only have 11 days to do ANYTHING??

I bought a nice amount of it online about a week ago and then the website decided to tell me about the ban. It scared me for a second. I'm a little confused as to why they feel it's a danger. I'm pissed I'll now have a lot of a schedule 1 drug in the house, but I paid for it and don't want to toss it so it's staying.

What will you do if kratom is banned?

Well, that is the main question of this thread: what do you would if finally kratom get ban in USA on day 30th? Thousands of people are making noise in social media about it, specially in Twitter and there are a lot of people that are using it to keep sober and stay away from opiates or another Rx drugs, well for medical reasons like pain, anxiety, depression, PTSD.. or to fight the addiction.

I particulary use this holy plant to manage my chronic pain w/o opiates after 4 years taking them on a daily basis, from morphine to fentanyl to oxycodone. Helped me so much too to can get off Suboxone and don't fall in a long term to another addiction (btw, get off of Suboxone is hard task too: I luckly I was only 7 months with it because I found kratom and I wanted get clean, although the ignorants doctors said me I should take it minimal 1 or 2 years..)

Let's see the evolution of this important case, let's make a discussion about it here where can say our experience with it, and what we think could happen us if get ban.

I for example, purchased a big order of 1kg of my loved red vein borneo to have enough stock no matter what happens, and probably the next month I will buy again another kilo, I will stay pendent of all the news about it.
Back to opiates isn't an option to me, my life quality has improved a lot and in only 10 months I gained almost 10kg, but neither want live in agony with the pain, for that I purchased a high amount by the moment, just in case.

I just called my congressman/respresentative's office today and spoke with one of my representative's staff members about Kratom and shared the entire story and he was extremely polite and said he would mail me back a response.

Call (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your congressman's office and give them your zipcode so you can reach the right office and then you will probably reach an intern.

Tell the intern you need your congressman to sign the POCAN/SALMON DEAR COLLEAGUE LETTER (spell out the name of the letter for them so they don't get it wrong) and explain why it is so important to keep Kratom legal, how the DEA will schedule it on September 30th and there are already 130,000 signees to the White House petition to stop it.

Share your story if you want and how it's helped you and explain how it helps heroin users and opiate addicts and soldiers with PTSD etc.

He said I wasn't the first person in my area to call about this issue.

THIS IS THE FIRST THING LIKE THIS I'VE EVER DONE IN MY LIFE!!

It felt good to do, regardless of whether or not I make an impact.

PLEASE EVERYONE WHO READS THIS PHONE YOUR REPRESENTATIVE ASAP!!!

People are saying it must be done by 4:30PM so you have HALF AN HOUR Eastern Standard Time or I guess 2-3 hours if you are on the West Coast depending on your area.

DON"T DELAY!!!

(But even if you DO miss that deadline I'd suggest you KEEP calling!!!)

WE MIGHT be able to make a difference!!

Tramadol is probably the next best thing to kratom in terms of similarities, though it is hardly the same given its prescription status.

Why am I being pessimistic and guessing that most Kratom users on Bluelight WON'T call this number??

Whether you use it or not if you support it's legalization you should call your congressman.

I already did earlier and they said I wasn't the first in my zipcode to call my congressman about Kratom.

I've left posts in multiple Kratom threads with the necessary info.

DO IT.

Because humans are weak and lazy generally. We'd rather complain than fight. I made my call and emailed all my friends and at least a few of them made the call.

We cannot live in a truly free nation as long as terrible organizations like the DEA exist. They need to be abolished along with any controlled substance act, and put the agents to work cracking down on actual crimes against humanity like child porn or something.

Oh, and seriously, a mostly harmless, naturally occurring substance as a Schedule 1? So kratom, which has actually helped millions of people with multiple problems, and has been in use since ancient times as a traditional medicine, has "no currently accepted medical use in treatment"? Fuck you, DEA! Who the fuck are you to determine whether a substance has a medical use or not? Are all DEA agents trained pharmacists and doctors of medicine now?
One of the many things I hate about living in today's world is that anything that feels good has to be outlawed or heavily regulated whether it's dangerous or not, and why is that? I think drug use is a natural part of the human experience, why else would our brains even respond to them?
I don't even use kratom, but shit like this just pisses me off. There is no free nation left in the entire world if you think about it, and regulation of psychoactive substances gives governments complete control of your mind and body.
I could go on about revolutions and all that shit, but I feel I've ranted enough and would be too far off topic, so I'll save it for another time. :)

why waste your time?

It took 5 minutes and the VERY slim possibility we could make a difference was worth that 5 mins.

But it's because there are so many people like you who WON'T make the call that it WILL be a waste of time.

Congress itself DOES have the power to stop the DEA, but due to lack of calls from Kratom users they won't.

If you look at post-colonial life (i.e. post 1800's), you can see that it's never really been about making people 'feel good.' The way our work week is structured (an unnatural 40 hours) is already evidence of this. To top it off, we first made alcohol illegal, and then an assortment of drugs. There is something so life-affirming and rebellious about saying 'f*** it, I want to feel good right now!' that doesn't fit into any structured system of social governance. You're absolutely right that regulating psycho-active substances is very limiting to freedom, and undemocratic. Why don't they keep young, innocent men from joining the army and giving up years of their life, arriving later with PTSD, from destroying their mental and physical lives? Is that really better than kratom?
