WEST GOSHEN TWP., Pa. - June 20, 2011 (WPVI) -- Action News has learned that Ryan Dunn, one of the stars of the MTV television and movie series 'Jackass', was killed Monday morning in a crash in West Goshen Township, Chester County.
The accident occured around 2:30 a.m. on Route 322, near Pottstown Pike.
According to police, Dunn lost control of his 2007 Porsche 911 GT3, veered into a wooded area next to the road and collided with a tree. The impact resulted in the vehicle bursting into flames.
Both Dunn and a passenger were killed. Investigators say both bodies were burned badly and that they are still trying to determine the identity of the passenger.
The preliminary investigation revealed that speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
April Margera, the mother of Dunn's 'Jackass' costar and good friend Bam Margera, called into the Preston and Steve radio show Monday morning to confirm the loss of Dunn.
According to TMZ, Dunn uploaded a picture of himself drinking with friends to his Twitter account on Sunday night. However, there is no word at this time if alcohol played a role in the crash.
According to a biography posted on his website, Dunn was born in Ohio and moved at age 15 to West Chester, Pennsylvania, where he met Bam Margera on his first day of high school.
Dunn, Margera, Christopher Raab (known as Raab Himself) and Brandon DiCamillo, under the moniker CKY for "Camp Kill Yourself," started making videos that featured them skateboarding and performing stunts.
Dunn was working as a welder and at a gas station when Johnny Knoxville, a friend of Margera's through the skateboarding circuit, asked the crew to allow their videos to be part of the series "Jackass," which became a hit on MTV and ran from 2000 to 2002.
Best known as a star on reality TV shows 'Jackass', 'Viva La Bam', and 'Homewrecker', Dunn also starred in three 'Jackass' movies and was the host of the show "Proving Ground" on the G4 cable network.
Dunn had just celebrated his 34th birthday on June 11th.
