Please no judgement..
I relapsed after 2 months meth free and I am 12 weeks pregnant. What is going to happen to the baby after this and will 1 use while pregnant effect the baby after she's born ?

It's unclear how much meth use effects fetuses. There are just too many variables to account for when monitoring a childs development. That being said it almost certainly does nothing good.
You know how you feel all stupid and shit after using for a few days? Well imagine being an undeveloped fetus having to deal with that.

If you are going to use at least make sure you eat good (as good as you can) and stay well hydrated.

No judgment here at all, so no worries. Your not a bad person so please don't beat yourself up.
Im no doctor but in the first trimester babies are pretty resilient, look at the babies born addicted to heroin and crack. Their moms used daily but it do cause the baby problems.
If i was a betting person i would say your ok and just don't do it again, probably easier said then done but imagine the guilt if your baby was born ill.
And meth is one of the most toxic drugs
I hope you can get away from it. And keep coming here for non judgmental support ?

Thank you this helps a lot

Was it a one off use or a long run? Or are you still using?

Lucy gave a good answer I think, but as I'm sure you know, meth is one of the most toxic drugs out there, and every time you use is increasing the chances of complications.

If you haven't quit and you plan on seeing the pregnancy through, are you aware of local services that could support you to?

Obviously pregnancy and methamphetamine aren't exactly bedfellows.

Take care and good luck.

Malpal, we all are here to support you. It's obviously a bad decision to use Methamphetamine in any way during pregnancy. You want that little critter to have every opportunity possible, but hey, things happen and what's far more important than what you've done, is what you shall do in the future! You don't need to do this again, so don't. While I'm sure at the very least, the physical effects of meth (hydration, nutrition, sleep) are not good for a developing fetus, I doubt that you've done anything "medically significant" to your baby. I believe it goes without saying that the only person who can tell you the full skinny is gonna be your OBGYN and I understand that this is out of the question.

Please, for the life of your child don't bother with that poison anymore while you're biologically in charge of him or her. If you need emotional support, you can private message me anytime. If you would like my number, you could call me anytime you feel like you're having a problem? I want to do whatever I can to help.

Like I said Malpal, we're here to help ya! I got your PM, so feel free to hit me up whenever. You're not likely to put me off, gross me out or cause me to question the essential goodness of mankind with anything you've got :) We can get through it!

Yeah what is done is done. It was only a one time thing so most likely no permanent damage. BUT if you continue to use meth the baby will possibly be born with severe adhd and maybe other neurological damage..

One-time uses are going to be significantly less dangerous to the baby than I going use.

However, even a single use can problems with the baby both physically and mentally. These problems can appear both at birth or later in development (e.g. attention issues or incomplete growth).

Keep in mind, just walking down a city street can cause the same problems. That is, nearly anything can be harmful. Babies born in cities have higher rates of deformities than babies born outside of cities. That doesn’t mean it’s fangerous to be Pregnant if you live in a city. It doesn’t even mean the city caused the problems. You can apply the same to meth use while pregnant.

While all humans (including babies) are remarkably resilient, babies are also extremely fragile relative to a full grown adult.

Pregnancy and human development is far too comples to tell you how your baby will be effected.

Hi MalPal,

It looks like you are in good hands with Keif'. Ignore unsubstantiated opinions you come across and trust in those who show genuine concern for the both of you. Just some food for thought about issues from pregnant women who used adderall while pregnant and some info pertaining to pregnancy and stimulants. These are all related to mother's who used more than once of course. Wishing you the best

Hi Mal. No judgement whatsoever. Like others have said, there are countless mothers who used all sorts of drugs while pregnant and no, it’s not healthy for the baby, but you said it was only one time so I’m sure things will be ok. I know a few women who used while pregnant, one who used meth almost her whole pregnancy, and her son did end up having autism. I never asked her if it was due to the using, but I’m sure it played a factor. I’m just telling you this not to scare you, but to let you know that there are definite risks. Do the best you can to not use again and I have faith things will be ok. You and your family will be in my thoughts

Just be aware that in the US when you get your first labs and when you give birth they drug test you and the baby .. If your positive social services will be involved and they can also test the placenta and that test can go as far back as 5 months .
No judgement here , my last baby who is now 7 months , when I first got pregnant I was hooked on oxy , it took me the first 3 months of pregnancy to taper safely and she was born perfect but meth is pretty much poison so please try to get clean . Best of luck to you and baby .

How are you OP? If your reading can you give us an update? Noone will judge you if you slipped up again.
I truly hope you haven't but if you have we are still here for support ❤

I know this is old but, Larimar, I'm currently in the same situation you were in. Pregnant and trying to detox. I have my first appointment Friday and hopefully will test clean by then but my question to you is, did you pee dirty your first test while pregnant? If so, did they notify you? I have a friend who said no one told her she pissed dirty until she delivered the baby because they were trying to give her the opportunity to get it out of her system but that seems strange to me. Also, are you sure they drug test everywhere in the US? I've done extensive research on it and it seems that it is a case by case basis. Meaning some doctors pick and choose who they should test. Woman with a history of drug abuse, women who seek prenatal care late in pregnancy, are just some red flags that would cause doctors offices to test. Although there is some docs that test everyone as to avoid discrimination accusations. But like I said, SOME. Not all. I've never heard that everywhere in the US does this. Do you have a source for that information?

Look no judgements here, I understand drug addiction, but do your unborn baby a favor and get an abortion. It’s so fucked up to use drugs while pregnant.

I was born with a severe birth defect because my mom was an alcoholic and drank heavily while pregnant. I won’t say what it was but it caused me severe pain and trauma as a kid and Basically I would have rather not been born for a long time
Because of all the pain this birth defect caused me. I was bullied and made fun off for a long time until i physically armed myself at school, but is this what you want your child to have to risk growing up with?

Get off the drugs now or get an abortion, no excuses. It’s fucked up and I still resent my mom to this day for fucking up a defenseless baby.

Feel ya man, my mom is a master of denial and didn’t want to accept she was pregnant with me so drank and used cocaine fairly heavily for the first 3 months.

Thankfully no physical defects but mental without a doubt. I’ve never felt “right” and looking back I had major addiction seeking behaviors growing up, starting with porn age 8, adrenaline pumping activities at 11-12 and drugs at 15. Anything I like I do it tovthe extremr until it’s all dried up and meaningless to me.

Also oxytocin release during the first trimester has an effect on bonding between mother and child, alcohol inhibits oxytocin as I’m sure cocaine likely does too. Once I was born she went right back to the bottle and subsequently it was my dad who held me as an infant (oxytocin release being held.)

Me and my mothers relationship never really developed and I truly believe it was early age oxytocin wasn’t there for either of us. On the flip side my rough and tough cocaine dealer biker dad would hold and cuddle me, and subsequently our relationship is about as strong as one can be. I’d die for that man.

Theres many complications beyond what one may initially consider when it comes to using drugs during pregnancy and early childhood. My mom unfortunately couldn’t get her shit together while my dad did. The results are clear in who both myself and my siblings view as the “better parent.”

While OP already had the baby (or didn’t) hopefully this sinks in for someone else reading.

I said I'm detoxing so what's the issue?

Pregnancy and meth?

I have no understanding for something sorry, even if I know how hard it is to quit. Shouldn't your baby reason enough???? It will ( if ever ) come to this world with a big hurting w/d. Do you want this?
