When I saw the commercials for this I thought it looked weak. I then learned a very little about how it was based on a graphic novel and it was supposed to have all this buzz and controversy surrounding it. So judging by that alone I dismissed it as being another lame 'comic book' movie.
But I happened to be at a friend's house and he had it on dvd; I think it was actually really good overall. At the beginning of the movie I was expecting it to be pretty mediocre. But as the movie developed I found myself completely drawn in and interested in the storyline. Two thumbs up from me.
Then I decided to look up the'V' thread on BL to see what y'all had to say. Man you guys get sidetracked in arguing easily. It's just a movie- based on a graphic novel; that's it. All this stuff about how the author didn't like it because they left out details and whatnot, I understand that because he created the storyline. But that's no reason not to like this movie based on it's own merit.
And just how is this movie really at all that relevant to what our world looks like except in the most general ways?
My opinion on it is that the author used WWII, Nazi Germany, and the holocaust as his main inspiration for the totalitarion government portrayed in the movie. And layoff Natalie Portman, for pete's sake. Name one pretty actress who get's taken seriously unless they're in a fat suit or playing a chubby beat up serial killer to ugly themselves up- and thus somehow make their acting better or more believable. Any way, good movie.:D
