Great movie. Although it was a mix of the two, I'd say it was more on the war drama side rather than fantasy. Without really knowing the story line I was expecting pretty much a full fantasy movie.

The ending was great, tied it all together perfectly. If it didn't end as it did the entire movie would not have been nearly as strong.

I thought it was a kids movie, and saw that and was like "WOW".

At the rental place, there was a sign that stated THIS IS NOT A CHILDREN"S MOVIE AND IS RATED R.
Can you imagine bring this home to a kid? I bet some parents have.
I can handle movie violence except on/to the face.

Oh God mirrormask SUCKS lol. I caught it on HBO a coupla weeks ago and it freaking bored me to tears, despite the flashy preview.

that was the point i think though. as the makers tell in various promo's and commentaries... old child stories were meant to scare, but to scare from the point of innocence. you really don't get that anymore. hell you were lucky if i got that as a kid. Sure there were.. safe for kid, but scary nonetheless, scenes in.. The Goonies, or Neverending Story. But not you have a lot of kid movies that hell.. fuck scaring the kids... it goes to the point of underminding their intelligence. I definatley don't feel this movie was for kids.. but made for us to feel like kids.. and to be scared like kids.

I thought it was a beautiful film. The ending was perfect. Very well done. I'm normally put off by subtitles, but this movie made it worth it.

Finally got around to seeing it, and I have to say it was one of the most moving films I have ever seen. I will probably watch it again before I go to sleep tonight.

I gave it 4 stars(takes alot for 5) I havent seen a movie anything like this ever. Storyline is excellent, I will agree the violence was a bit much, but still not as bad as a lot of other movies. I thought the violence between the capt and the farmers was more sad than disturbing.

This movie is so full of emotion, its captivating. I might watch this with my partner on friday, see what he thinks. I hope they make more films like this. Foreign films are so much more interesting than english films, their perspective is so vastly different from ours.

Can anyone recommend any other fantasy-like films like this?

movie was complete trash.

so many plot holes
1 dimensional characters.
Storyline didn't integrate at all; was like the director threw several irrelevant un-compelling plots together.
Symbolism? I can hear the director/writer perplexed at how to even pronounce this word.
No - it's not a good movie because you disillusion yourself with its so called meaning.
Tideland, whilst possibly as boring (drawn out) entertains the same message but actually delivers
Repo-men wouldn't even take my copy from the rubbish bin.
