I've noticed over time browsing this forum, that it is mostly filled with negativity about certain religions and spirituality, so I would like to make a thread for bible verses that I find uplifting and inspiring. Not a lot of discussion between actual practicers of spirituality or religion.

I don't think you need to be a practicing Christian to find some wisdom in scripture... I don't consider myself any particular denomination, but I have read the entire bible and look at it frequently for inspiration. Despite everything, at the end of the day I have faith that things are beyond my control and in the hands of a higher power, and I believe that higher power is God. And I try my best to follow the simple golden rule and important commandments, to 'love thy neighbor' and to 'love God'.

If you are a Christian or a reader of the bible, feel free to post some verses here you like or have philosophical discussions about your faith. I will post my first verse in the comments.

This thread is not meant to be a debate thread, or a place to criticize Christianity. Any posts like that will be deleted as off-topic.

Galatians, Chapter 6:

1 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. 2 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. 3 If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.

4 Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. 5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct.

6 Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them.

7 Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. 9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.

Ecclesiasties 1:2

"Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless."

On a side note i am a bit of a biblical scholar. Not because i ever believed any of the fairy tale for a moment, but more so out of an appreciation of the poetry and philosophy. Moreso the old testament. The writing is far prettier.

I love Ecclesiastes... one of my favorite books

I went to a religious school and studied the bible however I will have to admit I simply can't just read it and take anything from it.

Its just too difficult to read with the layout, the language is just so dated, it seems blah in the misogyny. I doubt it really is misogynist, its just old.

Nice thread, uplifting things are needed these days

Why take the time to clutter up his super positive thread with negativity?

1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love

While I was brought up around a fair bit of Christianity. I don't count myself a Christian. I still have a spiritual side,and I wouldn't count myself an atheist. But much as Christian theology interests me and I have read a lot of the Bible, I can't say I believe in it.

I generally prefer to argue the Bible from the perspective of the negative things it attributes to God. But if you want me to give a positive one...

While it's an obvious one, I do quite like John 8:7.

"So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

As fucked up and misogynist as the underlying situation is. I think it's a good message. No one is without sin, only God is fit to cast judgement. And the older you are the less innocent you are of sin.

John 8:10-11

“When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
“She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Thanks Daisy

@Atelier3 I don't think she said anything negative, if anything she said it was nice thread... She is right the old translations are hard to read. After reading the entire New Living Translation, I'm spoiled on the simple and straightforward modern English used... I simply can't read or make sense of the King James at all, and I don't know why people still use those old translations.

Thanks Daisy

Apologies Daisy

@deficiT tradition mostly. Also some feel they are more accurate I guess.

I have another, Matthew 21:31-32

Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

Or for the new international version.

Which of the two did what his father wanted?”

“The first,” they answered.

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

As illustrated by Jesus parable and the context, it does not matter what station you have in life, whether you are president or prostitute, pharisee or publican. God cares not for such earthly concerns. Only for what's in your heart.

Again it's not that I literally believe this stuff. But I like the theology and it does have some positive messages.

When I was a homeless beggar the Christians were some of the most ready to try and help. There is bad in religion, but for some people it can help bring out the best in them too.

Absolutely... churches are some of the best resources for HR in local communities, whether it's doling out food, finding ppl homes, or hosting recovery meetings, churches can be a valuable resource. And you don't have to be religious to utilize these services.

I liked the part where Jesus went and flipped the pharasoes tables and let their birds free.

Really any words directly quoted by him, I can stand by and agree with. The rest of it, I haven't read in a decade, though there were some I enjoyed, even though it contradicts itself constantly.

Proverbs 17:5 : He who mocks the poor taunts his Maker; He who rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.

I like some of the Bible stories and parables. The stories involving Jesus are pretty good, but I was bombed with them so much as a kid going to church that they got kinda stale to me. However, I liked the idea of the Messiah just recruiting a bunch of common workers on a quixotic battle against the most powerful empire on earth at that time, and scandalizing the local upper class and religious establishment by consorting with hookers and the poor/downtrodden, etc.

I was talking with someone else about this, and I think it's something I've just realized. I guess I don't have the same negative baggage associated with Christianity as a lot of people do. My folks were religious but it was never shoved onto me. I only attended church a couple times, and I was allowed to naturally find it myself. I think maybe children are a bit too young to understand spirituality, and it's better for them to figure these things out for themselves..

if churchs acutally taught real Christianity instead of whatever fucking shit they do now im sure alot more people would go.

Reading all these great works by various saints over history. Monks becoming one with god was the main goal of it. Meditation and prayer. Every culture and religion has something detailing that through meditation and a pure heart you will eventually have the vision and union of god experience.

Im going to study these teachings more now. I believe it is true that humanity will become like god in the afterlife by the mercy of the lord. Humans selfish love will never match the selfless love of the divine.

In gods wisdom he gave us the knowledge of good and evil during our fall so that in meditation and prayer we would recgonize false spiritual knowledge and go towards the light. Though some go the other way and become disconnected from objective reality and develop a hatred for god and existence so they will be purified by gods glory in the darkness.

I love god i use to hate god though til i did get cleansed in hellfire. Hell is not a bad place and is a place of extreme cleansing so all souls including all the evil people will one day have salvation by gods mercy into eternal bliss.

God created us a mortals in wisdom so we could truly appreciate becoming godlike in the afterlife.

I no longer question god and instead i want to try open my heart more and stop getting defeated by all the temptations and evil thoughts in my mind.

Jesus was the most enlightened man to ever walk the earth and become godlike. I see now that any master that claims enlightenment without proclaiming the existence and oneness of god was never enlightened and is a false shepherd. Why is that countries that have Christianity as their major religion the best places to live in the world alot less violent to live in and have way less poverty and corruption and oppression.

Jesus is the way i see now!

Proverbs 17

Better a dry crust eaten in peace
than a house filled with feasting—and conflict.
2 A wise servant will rule over the master’s disgraceful son
and will share the inheritance of the master’s children.
3 Fire tests the purity of silver and gold,
but the Lord tests the heart.
4 Wrongdoers eagerly listen to gossip;
liars pay close attention to slander.
5 Those who mock the poor insult their Maker;
those who rejoice at the misfortune of others will be punished.
6 Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged;
parents are the pride of their children.
7 Eloquent words are not fitting for a fool;
even less are lies fitting for a ruler.
8 A bribe is like a lucky charm;
whoever gives one will prosper!
9 Love prospers when a fault is forgiven,
but dwelling on it separates close friends.
10 A single rebuke does more for a person of understanding
than a hundred lashes on the back of a fool.
11 Evil people are eager for rebellion,
but they will be severely punished.
12 It is safer to meet a bear robbed of her cubs
than to confront a fool caught in foolishness.
13 If you repay good with evil,
evil will never leave your house.
14 Starting a quarrel is like opening a floodgate,
so stop before a dispute breaks out.
15 Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent—
both are detestable to the Lord.
16 It is senseless to pay tuition to educate a fool,
since he has no heart for learning.
17 A friend is always loyal,
and a brother is born to help in time of need.
18 It’s poor judgment to guarantee another person’s debt
or put up security for a friend.
19 Anyone who loves to quarrel loves sin;
anyone who trusts in high walls invites disaster.
20 The crooked heart will not prosper;
the lying tongue tumbles into trouble.
21 It is painful to be the parent of a fool;
there is no joy for the father of a rebel.
22 A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.
23 The wicked take secret bribes
to pervert the course of justice.
24 Sensible people keep their eyes glued on wisdom,
but a fool’s eyes wander to the ends of the earth.
25 Foolish children bring grief to their father
and bitterness to the one who gave them birth.
26 It is wrong to punish the godly for being good
or to flog leaders for being honest.
27 A truly wise person uses few words;
a person with understanding is even-tempered.
28 Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent;
with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.

1 Timothy 2:

"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet 🤫. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner 🍏. But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety. 🤰🏿"

But hey at least women get a chance to redeem themselves. I mean after all, they got the human race kicked out of paradise 😒

^^ yeah those parts a little whack

The new testament would be better (and so would Christianity) if it ended with the gospels. Everything else is superfluous. Christianity needs nothing else beyond the gospels.

I always point these out to asshole Christians:

Evolution (or at least the non-preeminence of humans):

Ecclesiasties 3

I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”

Jesus condoning homosexuality:

Matthew 19:12

For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others--and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it

It is also funny when conservative christians bash liberals for being "socialist" because if Jesus were around now he would definitely be a socialist, "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."
