Always sounds circular to me, but I guess it comes from "recook". Like, why would you do that when you already did and can't anymore?
The crack you have, needs too much acidifier to convert, so you believe it's (more) full of cut and crap than usual.
Then, from the crack you still have, you want to know if it's worth your time to "clean" it, before trying to acidify again? Or what?
Whatever the answer, it's gonna depend on what all's in there, what's going wrong with the acidifier, what cleaning methods, I mean, are you going to attempt a anhydrous acetone re-crystallization using dropwise muriatic acid like our friend Le Junk proposed? That would do both at the same time, technically, but I have a hard time recommending crack cocaine aficionados go buy a gallon jug of 31% HCl to squeeze a drop or two out.
Actually, I wouldn't add HCl that concentrated to acetone either (or anything, except a swimming pool). Besides overheating, you'd be able to protonate the acetone, giving you an alcohol, which I can rearrange into something odd I wouldn't want to put in my veins.
Has anyone here tried that protocol?
I'd stick to citric acid, strongest of the ones you mentioned. If you have a way to clean your crack first, it wouldn't hurt. Make sure it's actually citric acid, and not sodium citrate.
I suddenly don't like people storing acetone at home, either.
