I am an 18 year old male. Turned 18 in august 2021 for reference. I first used an amphetamine specifically adderall October 2020, and loved the high. I continued to use them every 3-4 days staying up one night on 60-80 milligrams. I continued this until about January when I tried meth for the first time. Starting late January I was doing meth everyday, only snorting at this point. One or two lines early in the day and sleeping 3-4 hours every night. But I’m mid febuary I started staying up all night watching porn, which progressed to sometimes 2 nights followed by 24 hours of sleep in march. I’m April i started smoking and would stay up a night or two smoking all day long throughout April. I quit may 5 and smoked weed all day from may to august 12 when I relapsed and smoked for 1 day. Then stayed sober one month and did adderall 2 nights in September then one more month sober. I then smoked again October 3/4 and had a bad experience no euphoria, extreme anxiety and feeling horrible. I have been sober for 4 months from everything besides prescription gabepentin. What can I do at this point? I feel so mentally I’ll from the drug use is there any hope left? Or did I waste my life?

You're still a baby, of course there's hope

It's not like you've spent years abusing amphetamines and going on week long binges

Even in that case you can still recover, just takes longer and more will power
I feel so mentally destroyed after amphetamine abuse like I lost my mind, extremely anxious and depressed. Is there a timeline for how long I’m looking at to achieve normalcy? I am taking a lot of nootropics and looking into cerebrolysin injections, but I sometimes feel hopeless and a sense of doom with life now

Won't take long to recover from that. Exercise and sleep will solve most of the issues, aside from cravings etc.

Avoid the cerebrolysin, talk about permanent damage, that stuff can cause bizarre and long lasting side-effects.

I’ve always heard that meth ruins a brain permanently tho. I learned about cerebrolysin from a YouTuber LEO AND LONGEVITY. And he talked about how it can increase neurogenesis a lot and repair amohetamine neurotoxicity

Honestly i have not ever gotten any useful/tangible long or short teen effects out of nootropics.

The advice of sobriety, healthy diet, and exercise really is true (if not super exciting or flashy).

Meth doesn't permanently ruin brains. It pretty quickly forms pathways that promote addiction, and downregulates proteins involved in dopamine signaling though as your body attempts to regain homeostasis. Over time your body will adjust to the level of dopamine produced during sobriety and you will feel more motivated and less foggy.

Just have to put in the time to get better (which isn't a trivial task). There aren't any shortcuts - if so they would be immensely popular in places such as this one.

Is there any timeline you have for how long that would take or no?

If you feel no euphoria from meth

Wait a week for your dopamine to refill at least 90%

And try buying higher quality, even tho it's hard to find

Probably some sort of biker bang has it

I'm not going to say that can't happen, but they're referring to people who have been in heavy meth for many years, decades, their whole life. Also more often than not the damage comes from the lifestyle more than the meth itself.

You are quite young and didn't use very long, you will absolutely recover from this, the odds are on your side here. Your body is very resilient and has miraculous healing powers as long as you treat it well (diet/exercise is crucial)

Don't start thinking about permanent damage this will only create more anxiety and is extremely unlikely in your case.

How long do you think till I reach a relatively good baseline?

with sobriety and good health/diet/exercise? 1-6 weeks

at your age, at least

if you aren't back at baseline with sobriety and that timeline, you likely have something else mental going on.

Ever been to a shrink? You should go.

Really? It’s been 4 months for me and I’m still feeling like death each day it’s horrible, you don’t think it could be a year wait?

if its been 4 months past meth and you're still not right... go to a doctor man, no other option

don't feel bad or weird about it... just go man

it's not some weakness to seek help

Been talking to a psychiatrist and a therapist, they know about the meth use, I feel very lethargic, dwell in the past, extremely anxious and depressed. You sure this isn’t due to the meth use man? I read it takes YEARS to recover from

you used meth for... a year? at 17-18 years old?

unless your meth was the worst cut meth in the world, no... and even if that, I still have a hard time grasping your misfortune

I experience what you're talking about normally, on an average day.

Honestly, to me, it sounds like you're describing previous or current various mental illness

What's your diet like? Do you exercise? There are too many factors here to start immediately blaming ANYTHING on permanent meth damage.

I used meth and heroin pretty much every day from 14-23 and still ended up OK... there is likely other issues going on, not the meth.

meth, if anything, highlighted your previous natural conditions

Diet could be better, but I excercise atkeast once every other day with cardio and lifting, they suspected I was bipolar even before my meth use, which I thought was caused by my Dxm use from 14-16 till I became manic at 16

how much DXM did you abuse from 14-16

this drug turns into a hardcore serotonergic agent at high doses, especially repeated high doses

I know several people who got messed up from DXM abuse during teenage years

I abused it myself, but only a handful of times

Heavy heavy doses, can this be undone? Or did I ruin my life?

I am no doctor. Yes, some damage is permanent, others resolve with time, you are still very young nobody can answer this for you.

you did not ruin your life

it's possible you made some changes to your brain

have you admitted to your doctor your DXM use? this is extremely important in your treatment... are you taking any SSRI drugs?? these should be stopped...

when you lie to your doctors or omit the full truth to them... you are ONLY hurting yourself by doing this, it's not wise.

FUCK what your parents might think, don't ever lie to your doctor

Not taking any ssris, doctor doesn’t know because I haven’t done it in over 2 years now. What kind of damages do you see in the people you’ve known with Dxm addiction as teenagers? Any of them got bipolar from it?

No, serotonergic damage leads to mostly schizophrenia. I have drug induced schizophrenia, but not from dxm.

I'm not saying that's what happened to you either... Unlikely...

Nobody here can really tell you what's going on other than it's most likely not drug related.

Talk to your shrink. Live heathy, and check back in a few months later. Try some meds

Live normally for a bit and see what happens.
