Headphones and what about them

^Sennheiser makes really good headphones, that are affordable as well.

open air have being the best to me
closed and in ear are cool too but not needed or wanted for the most part
grado sr-60 are the comfiest of the grado line or so ive heard and the cheapest too, mine are still alive after a good 4 year or hard use and i would say they are built pretty efficiently

if those ever die ill buy a new pair for sure
its happiness in a can

I'm rockin Sennheiser HD600, AKG K271mkII, Denon D2000, and Shure e4c. I'm thinking about selling the Denon though..they don't fit my smallish head so well, and the HD600/K271mkII cover pretty much all music quite well. With the beats I think people pay more for style/brand name than sound quality.

A few things about myself with headphones:

I cannot wear ear bud headphones (the standard ones, like iPod and Sony buds)
The ear buds that I *can* wear (SkullCandy, anything that has the squishable end) are much too loud and close sounding. I'm afraid of losing more hearing (25dB loss in right ear, ~65dB loss in left ear).
I don't like over the head headphones because they fall off my head.
Ear clip headphones hurt my ears (they pinch).

The only type of headphones that I currently like are behind-the-head headphones, which are becoming rarer and rarer to find. The current ones I use are the Sony MDR-G45s. I have been using these headphones for about 5 years now. I love them. They are comfortable enough to exercise with, don't fall out of my ears, and I can take them off easily and without feeling like my hearing is getting worse.

Grado Labs SR-225s. I also really liked Sennheiser HD595s when I demoed them, but Grados sound way better on cheaper headphone amps, like the one I have, and Grados' up-front sound is really good for breakcore, metal, industrial, etc.

ebola

^^..Very true. If I listened to more metal or hard rock I would definitely have a pair of Grados.

I have a fairly budget amp that pairs very well with the HD600..most budget amps are insufficient to drive them, but my Vivid V1 does a great job, and I have yet to experience better sound quality (never tried a good $200+ amp with them though). When I first purchased them and was listening to them all the time I couldn't stand going to clubs over here for awhile because the shitty sound quality made the experience unpleasant.

If anyone is interested I think Im posting on an old topic here, but my fav earbuds are skull candy's..http://www.skullcandy.com you really cant beat the quality of these and the bass and overall dynamics can not be beat in my opinion! Infact if you dont care about the colors, look for a set of their "Full Metal Jacket" sets that are on clearance.. Their warranty is top notch as well. Check em out, I totally love them.

IMO, the quality of skull candy headphones has gone way down. Back when they first came out they were awesome. Really good sound quality and they lasted forever and they were affordable. The last few times I bought them they broke within a month of being purchased. :\
I will say this though, they were some of the more comfortable ear buds I've used, and for the price, the sound quality is great.

Wow, I'm kind of shocked to hear yours broke so quickly, I have 2 sets of them and they are both very well built IMO, but then again I have nothing to compare too as these have been my first 2 sets of them. Yes they are way comfy and the fact that they give you something like 4 different ear pieces esp the memory foam ones. Did you get yours replaced through their warranty? I think they offer a 1 year complete replacement and a lifetime of 50% off anytime over the 1 year? Like I stated I don't know anything of what their quality used to be, but I have but these 2 I have through hell and they haven't given out on me at all, but I also don't use them in any way where they could get damaged ie trashing down a mountain on a snowboard or anything :)

Six hundred dollars for beats by dre. 550 dollars wasted on feeling good about your headphones purchase.

Dangg i need to get soem real high quality ones. I have put some on that feel like they were meant for your head and the music is crystal clear, inside your head, and it blocks out all the noise from the outer world.

Ive always jsut used normal earbuds but i love em. I think headphones are one of the greater inventions. Put some good trance on vibe to the music and get a good workout in. Nice.

Didn't get them replace, as they were so inexpensive that buying a new set wasn't really an issue.
I used them while working out and at school, which could be the reason that they broke on me.

I use a cheap pair of MEElectronics for sport. I have been using them now for a year (at least 3 times a week, often 5 times) with them getting drenched in sweat and being pulled out on accident and caught on things all the time. Very robust little things with metal housing, and good wiring.

Just picked up a pair of AKG K450's. I'm still unsure of what to think.. seems to be alot of people who claim the sound quality with these increase's with use, the much infamous 'burn in' concept. I can't wear closed/ear-cup headphones because there way to uncomfortable for long periods of time.. they sound great but i've always had a preference for on-ear headphones. So far these are extremely comfortable, the sound quality is average but im going to give it some time..

EDIT: After a couple of days of use and adjusting to the sound/changed a few drivers.. these are mint! And quite possibly the most comfortable headphones i've ever worn; i almost forget i have them on.

A friend of mine has some AKG's, he loves em. Good purchase man! :)

I used to wear a pair of 6x9 car speakers draped over my head with lamp wire powered by a homemade 9volt battery amplifier in high school. Sounded bad, but damn were they loud. When I older and worked in an A/V store I bought a pair of Grados, but those got sold long ago with all my stereo equip.
