[MEGA] Every Year's Community Growing advice, tips, tricks, & experiences

hi there artificial emotion, well im devastated had a look at my girl yesterday after she has beeh, on 12/12 now for 4wks, and now and i have found seeds!!! Now even that this is my first grow and im new to it i know that this is the last thing i needed,
so i know this is the end for her/him and ill have to just look forward to my next one,
so now i need to know why? Is it some thing i have done wrong or some thing i havent done or is it just that she was a he all along, now i know there were no seeds up until the time i found them,
she has loads of pistills and buds and has recovered from the over feeding, oh i forgot, iv was given it as a baby so i dont know its origin but it showed ALL the signs of being a her, so can a plant turn at ant time in its life cycle? Or was it always a he? or is it some problem with my grow room? I have so many questions going round my brain , so pls can you or any one else here help and give me any advice or even tell me wat or where i have gone wrong, also shall i just throw it in the bin or should i dry it out and try smoking it? Is it worth it,
Sorry its so long but im so confused, i just want to know why, then i will put it down to experience and improve my set up and move on , thanx for any in put any one

Don't worry. I have a jar of probably one of the most potent samples of weed you've seen in a long while and it was in fact from a seeded crop. Weed from a seeded crop can still potentially be excellent, so all is not lost. Plus you have loads of free seeds!

The only thing that could have caused it to become seeded is the presence of a male. Either that's your doing (i.e. you didn't catch a male soon enough or missed it all together), or it's the person's fault who gave it to your, or finally someone else is growing nearby and the wind carried pollen from their males (less likely but within the realms of possibility).

So don't throw it away. Harvest it and smoke it up after removing all seeds. I can assure you it's not a male. It's just a female that has been pollenated by a male.

In future don't accept clones or seedlings from other people. They are a major cause of bringing in diseases or pests into your grow room. I would suggest buying good quality F1 or F2 seeds from a reputable seedbank and growing them yourself, from scratch. It's the only way to be sure you don't run into problems like you're experiencing!

Sorry to hear goahead.

Female plants can turn hermie quite easily with small ammounts of stress, although this is mostly strain dependant to how much stress they can handle.

It could be number of thing's that caused her to turn. Could have been the over-feeding. How badly did it effect the plant? Were any leaves completely burnt? Could you give a quick run down of conditons in your grow room, for example your room temps/humidity, how often you water/feed, wheather the area is 100% light proof with no leaks etc.

If your just growing the one girl you can continue to grow her/him out. You will get buds in the end, but they'll be heavily seeded.

Any photo's?

Ah AE got there first. Sorry I didnt relise you were growing outdoors :\

If there are no nitceable signs of male flower to begin with(they look like little bananas when they first pop up out of the tops of buds) then it does sound like she was pollinated.

Well, I cut my plants last night ,and hung them , they are now in my closet, lights off, been there for about 20 hours, wondering when I should take them out and start trimming, as this is my first time I've ever harvested and had any yield, lol. I've started trimming the larger fan leaves, should I go ahead and continue to trim them, and the closet they are in the humidity is 45%, temp is about 65-70.

After I trim them, do I just put them in a paper bag and let dry? do I put them in a jar? lol, sorry , I feel stupid asking these questions, as I've trimmed many many plants for other people, but , I've never had my own plants turn out with anything until well, now :D
so yeah, sorry about the noob questions lol

What I always do (and have noticed is what many tend to do, although there are variations and there is no one right way) is to do a rough trim right after they've been cut off the plant. I then hang them up to dry until they just start to snap when bent (like Wise said) and then put them in brown, unbleached paper bags for a couple of days to dry them out a bit further. Once this is done I do a more thorough trim and finally, I put them in jars and cure them in the usual way by regularly burping them.

I would dry them in your closet first before using the paper bags personally.

Ants have been observed tearing the wings from aphids before they can become airborne. A recent study has also shown that ants can use semiochemicals to stop the aphids from developing wings, and to impede their ability to walk away.
wtf man, that's some scary stuff.
just because a creature isn't a human doesn't mean it can't be incredibly smart and calculated.

As much as I hate nuisance insects, I always feel bad thinking about the lady bugs and rolly-pollys that lose their legs in the crossfire.
war is war, there'll be some innocent casualties

Wise, don't worry about the photo mate. I'll just post it here.

Sorry about the mistake!

Here's the latest photo I just took (please click to enlarge!!).

I don't know if you can make it out, but in the centre of the leaf pattern you can see the lovely new buds forming!!

After a load of faffing about I managed to do a res change. I now just need to wait for the nutes to mix together and then adjust the pH, which is a royal pain in the arse to do!

I've always found it fascinating how ants work in massive coordinated communities rather efficiently. We ought to take a leaf out of their book as their society functions much better than our human equivalent.

No probs AE.Starting to push out tiny buds, looking good :) Requesting a shot of the whole scrog next photo's ;)

Here are a couple shots from last night of my girl. She got supercropped yet again, so her shape has changed a bit again. Hopefully next update i'll be able to show you a nicer looking shot of her during the day sucking up the rays :)

^ Those look incredibly healthy! Well done mate. You should be proud!

That's basically what a healthy cannabis plant is meant to look like! You're lucky you have free use of the sun's rays. I have to pay a fortune for my light.

For you guys growing in soil indoors who are sick of having to remember to water so often, I would seriously look into getting a Tropf Blumat watering system. It works by using these ceramic probes that are stuck into the medium and only open the valve to water when it senses the soil is dry. That way you get a perfect wet/dry cycle each and every time and you can sit back and relax.

It's so cheap considering what it does and it aways get excellent reviews. Here's a youtube demo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWPLr0Selh8

Another good way of watering is to put your water in a water butt and just place a big submersible pump inside, connected to a spray wand. Each time you want to water you just lift up the sprayer and squeeze, aiming at the medium. It makes watering almost effortless and more importantly, fun!

I know when I was growing in soil the most horrible aspect of the grow was having to water so often, even if it was only 3 or 4 times per week. Sometimes I would forget and inevitably reduce the end yield. However this can be avoided and I plan to use either on of the two methods I just described.

2011-2012 Community Growing advice, tips, tricks, & experiences

HELLO BLUELIGHTERS!

Marijuana.jpg

*it's not mine, but it's a nice cover.

I'm aware that the 2010-2011 Community Growing Advice thread is still very active. But it's nice to keep thing's up to date and invite you all to continue your discussion here.

I'm sorry if I'm stealing someone else's thread, I just didn't want to interrupt the current discussion. However, for those of you that remember me, I'm back after about three months. I have a lot more knowledge to share for those who need it, and I'd like to get some advice on a few things again as well. For those of you that don't know who I am, Bluelight helped me save a lot of money on my grow setup, gave me lots of tips on setting up a successful room. Tips that were more knowledge than you get from the books. In saying that, I'd like to thank two specific people who helped a lot; Mostly, Artificial_Emotion I tried to PM you but my PM's weren't working at that time. As well as Wise420, you gave me some great tips, thanks bro!

So whether this thread dies immediately or not, I'd like to start it off by explaining my situation because recently I ran into a problem.

When I started coming to Bluelight for help, it was because I had received my Medical Marijuana card and was legal to grow. That's where my journey begins, 8) .
There is a 25-40 day waiting period for patients/caregivers to receive there actual card (The Health Department just likes to delay you any way possible.). So during my waiting period, I bought the legal things. Grow Equipment. =D
My Equipment; Pictures to come.
  1. 4' x 8' Secret Jardin indoor grow tent.
  2. 6" CanFan 435CFM for exhaust which also cools the hood.
  3. Dayton Blower 463CFM for fresh air intake
  4. 1000Watt SuperSun Switchable Ballast w/Reflector (I need to get a larger hood. Hopefully for my 2nd grow)
  5. 12-SYTE C.A.P Ebb&Flo Hydroponics System
  6. Small $20 Ceramic Heater for night time cycle. (tent is in a non heated room in winter.)
  7. 6" Inline Duct Fan (cheap $35 dollar one, constantly running in the exhaust duct)
  8. GroSystem's Ebb&Flo medium. (Strange medium, bad reviews, what can I say, I'm dumb.)
  9. 12 Plant Yo-Yo's (because my medium's reviews tell me I'll need them for support later in life.)
  10. Resivor Heater w/Thermostat
  11. The Recipe for Success (Nutrients)
  12. 100Watt HPS Bulb & Ballast/Hood (Given to me)
  13. 2' T5 Florescent (for over my clone/seedling dome)
  14. Reptile Heating Pad for underneath Clone Dome

So recently, I went to a bud's house who is a licensed Caregiver. He has roughly the same set-up but MUCH more lighting and an 8' x 8' tent (double mine). I've watched his plants grow from day 1. Learned from his experience first hand. I had given him my original seedlings that I was growing because he was licensed and I was not. So moving on, they are only in there 3rd week of vege and in the same Ebb&Flo system I have. Problem is, there is no room in the tent. I mean none. The plants are very healthy at this point but are still months away from completing growth. They are very wide and full, I can also make a later post with pictures of them. The bottoms however do not get much light at all.. The buckets are spread to the furthest they can be from an another and they are under a lot of light. For the first 2.5 weeks they were in the Clone Dome as seedlings in rock-wool under 1 Hydrofarm 4" 8 Double Spectrum Bulbs Commercial T5. Then it was transferred into the hydroponics and was put under 1 1000 Watt Metal Halide in a XXXL Hood, & 2 Hydrofarm 4" 8Bulb T5's for the past 5.5 weeks, and now are under 2 1000Watt Metal Halide's in 2 of the XXXL hoods, as well as 1 T5, So there's plenty of light. I suggested he put the 2 T5's on the walls of the tent but he needs the 2nd T5 that he took down and replaced it with the 1000Watt MH for clones in a separate room. But the tent is filled, 8' x 8', of beautiful marijuana leaves. I think that HE is going to be alright in the end because he MIGHT force flower them soon. The strains he is growing are 6 Himalayan Gold, and 6 White Rhino.

This is what I need to know. My buddy has a tent DOUBLE my size, he also has well over TWICE the amount of lighting as me, along with MUCH better hoods. My original goal was to grow 12 plants, same as him. But now, with seeing him and the way his plants plumped out, I don't think my 2 square feet per plant is going to cut it. I already knew I was pushing it by not having a square meter per plant but I was being greedy I suppose. So what do I do? I want to get 2 T5 Florescent's for my walls, just the 4 bulb ones, but how many plants do you think I can fit in my 4' x 8' tent with just my 1000Watt HID? The tent is 32 square feet. I will be growing 6 different strains, all from clone. Is that a bad idea? If it is, what type of strain could I get the biggest yield from using my equipment, Indica? Sativa?

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE NICE!
Thanks in advance,
True2Grow

why not add to the other thread since its still open and is 2010-2011?

This thread might get moved, but I would advise you either double the amount of light you have (get a second 1kW light) or halve the size of your tent. You want a minimum of 50W/square foot. With your setup you'd have only 31.25W/sqft. This is too low and you'll just get piss poor results this way unfortunately.

I'm using a 1kW light in a four foot by four foot garden (sixteen square foot) and this is about right.

Your intake is larger than your extraction, so you'll never get negative pressure unless you slow the intake fan down with a fan controller. If you're using more than the single 1kW then your extraction will be inadequate. If you get a tent half the size and stick with the one 1kW you'll be okay with that extraction.

I would replace your 'ceramic' heater with an oil filled one, preferrably a minimum of 800-1000W depending on your geographical location and ambient background temps.

You need to control your fans rather than just blow them full blast. I would recommend variacs which you can DIY. If you don't have negative pressure in the tent and the sides aren't sucked in, your carbon filter will be useless.

Is that a 100W bulb or a 1000W bulb? It may be a silly question but you never know.

I'm sorry but I'm british, so I'm unable to give you advice about US-specific products/brands. I can help in general terms though.
I would have asked this in the main growing thread as you wouldn't have been interrupting us at all. The mods might get annoyed but hey, who knows!

That's a nice looking sativa in that pic. :)

AE is the man when it comes to the indoor stuff, including ventilation, lighting, hydroponics etc. So take his advice.

The other grow thread isnt anyones thread really, it's for all growers to use, and to ask any Q's they have in growing. I think this may get moved there, as there's still a couple hundred post's to go untill it hits 1000, and that's when a new one is made.

Thanks AE. Although she is looking very healthy, I wasnt completly satisfied with how she was looking(this could be due to being covered up by ferns for 1-2 days).

Just out of interest, do you ever use foliar seaweed extract (or soil drench SWEs)? If I had to choose one organic 'additive' alongside my main feed indoors or out, it would definitely be SWE. I find it to be an amazing growth/root stimulant and it's 100% organic if you get the right type. I find it superb for dealing with any sort of mild stress.

Perhaps that could give you the boost you need?

^You think we should have a society with a huge underclass of workers who toil endlessly to provide sustenance for a bloated queen and her elite group of suitors?

^^^ha.

Shes lookin much better i dont think the scales will be comming back anytime soon. But now theres heaps more ants running around on my plant.I'll give that tea tree oil shit a shot cos i would hate to have a heap of ants threw my buds :/
