Is Oxycodone taken once a day harmful to health?

I’ve seen hundreds of people and dozens of close friends journey down the opiate abyss for various reasons...seen individuals who knew no better other than what a doctor told them to take become ensnared in the blackhole. Im not trying to say this wont work or that you should quit, but honestly look at how it has already affected you in small and minor ways and multiply those by length of use. When I first started taking them a few times a week, eventually I developed issues physically and mentally. Its unlikely that any regimen involving opiate use weekly will not involve some of the problems mentioned above.
Thanks for that input. The main concern as of now is stomach pain. which makes sense as oxygen interferes with digestion and more water is being absorbed from your food and the stool becomes harder to pass. This is the main reason I thought to ask and try to find out if there are any liabilities other than addiction for regular use.

The use has only been for about a month at 2-5 times a week. Not long. But still concerned. Want to be safe. The only solution I've found is to have some days where the pain is faced and felt to allow for other days of oxycodone use and reprieve. It's not the mind of an addict. It the mind of someone trying to be controlled in their use.
Only a month? Oh youre just starting. You may look into other methods to manage your pain. Just a friendly suggestion. The fact that you are bent on keeping Oxy in your life exemplifies its tenacious grip.

Sorry for the typo above...I said "Oxygen" and meant to say Oxycodone.

Oh yeah for me a huge issue was GI, you will become very constipated and dehydrated, and when disused have watery bowels. Thats always very uncomfortable.

Only a month but 4 years of trying everything under the sun to help! To find something that helps is amazing.

I think the solution then is once or twice a week. Unfortunately, doing daily seems like it carries too much of a liability. I'm a little crushed! So happy to have found something that helps. Wish it didn't have side effects.

I wish you the best man, let your willpower overcome your desires. What we talked about will be the main side effects and concerns. If you can live with that you may serve to be an outlier in the realm of opiates.

I am an outlier. I've had so many drugs given to me. Most I threw away. Regretfully now however, since the all the lawsuits for painkillers have made it almost impossible to get them. At least hopefully I am an outlier. I assume most addicts don't do as much research. Or have a bottle of oxy in the cupboard for a year without touching them! Keep in mind, fun is not the endgame. relief from debilitating pain is. Wine and weed have always been more than enough for a good time. Unfortunately, weed makes the pain worse. Wine is the lesser of the two evils I suppose when compared to oxy, but the reprieve is way less, too. I do thank you for the conversation and well wishes!

I studied Neuropsychopharmacology in college and Psychology, that honestly only made me want to do more. Not sure research is a dividing factor, most addicts are Erowid fanboys. Have you been on Erowid for opiates?

You could always look into kratom. It's a solid painkiller (some sort of half-opiate whatever that is) and it's less invasive physically and mentally. Some people legitimately use it for chronic pain on the regular. It's pretty good stuff honestly. And you won't have to deal with legality issues since it's legal most places.

I mentioned Kratom, but actually kratom can have very severe effects, for me that was hair loss and terrible kidney damage. The rock hard stools werent fun either. The active compounds in kratom are actually more potent than oxy.

Taking one oxy a day is not bad for your health but how long you stay down that safe road is the scary part

I just opened up the webpage for Erowid for opiates. I'll take a look. Although I don't consider myself an addict. I can understand with studying all those drugs how you'd want to try them to see how the effects would feel.

I actually feel a bit safer doing the oxy under a doctors care. I know krater helps many people, but I don't want to just take it blindly. I have a prescription for the oxy at least.

Let's hope! Although I already feel a couple of things like stomach pain and depression, so I don't think at even maintaining one a day I can get away scott-free.

Not really. As a male user, it definitely started to deplete my testosterone a tiny a bit and low T results in feeling crappy all the time and energy issues. Can cause issues in the bedroom or physically neglected partners.

For the answer you're looking for, probably no... Opiates are surprisingly physically benign in comparison to something like meth. Never noticed things on the internet happening to me like weakened immune system.. etc. I mostly had to depend on it for energy after a year of perpetual use. That was it really. In super high doses... maybe some liver issues. After quitting I actually started growing way more facial hair and it wasn't something I was imagining. Tread carefully though please, It's a really good time ;)

I just wanted to raise my hand to say, you're absolutely spot on about how pain meds are actually in and of themselves quite safe. This is not just my opinion but if you wish to do the research, one will find it is indeed true. Unfortunately this opioid crisis (It.takes great restrain to not go off on a full blown rant, but I digress...) has muddied the waters so much folks don't know what to think!

I read somewhere that "pain patients" do take their medication as instructed, the actual percentage of folks who do not being extremely low, somewhere in the neighborhood of 1-5%. However, such a patient does need to reconcile the fact that their body will in fact become "dependant" on these medications. In situations like this a pretty good example is that of a diabetic, who is clearly physically "dependant" on the drug "insulin". I do realize this a very simplistic comparison, but I would be surprised if many people were aware of this fact, true abuse is limited to a very low percentage.

I'll close by saying thank you for bringing this topic to the foreground. To all the fellow pain patients out there, I feel you and pray we all find the relief we need and deserve, emphasis on the later!!

I'd say just go for it then. Chronic pain is affecting your life probably more than opoids would at this point. There aren't really physical issues with taking it regularly--mostly mental ones. Just a warning though, if push ever comes to shove and you have to get off the script for whatever reason your pain will be a bit magnified if you end up going off them. You can expect to have less energy in the long run, and your dose might have to be raised eventually because your body starts to adjust to it over time aka tolerance. You're not going to come out of this with organ failure or anything like that, as other people have said. It's just a really addicting substance even if you take it as recommended, you'll probably end up needing it to function eventually. I remember reading something where patients who are on the script for longer than 3 weeks usually end up developing an addiction to it. That's probably true.
@ orbital that's actually insane but I wouldn't doubt it. Kratom is really understudied. Liver problems though? Damn how did you find out?

Opioids can be taken daily for life without adverse health effects (aside from constipation which I'm sure you're familiar with). They're extremely safe drugs when taken at therapeutic levels. The same can't be said for many other medications.

If someone would be suicidal due to pain, I see no reason they shouldn't be allowed to use opioids as needed for life. Otherwise they'd top themselves. Hell, if I was in chronic pain and someone told me I'd just have to go on for the next 20+ years dealing with it, I'd say fuck that too, I'd top myself. Pain is misery.

No, opioids are not bad for your health. You can take them for decades and it's fine. The only time they are bad for your health (unless you abuse them by smoking or injecting or similar) is if they contain acetaminophen which is hepatotoxic.

For me, even the constipation goes away after a while. I've not had any constipation is YEARS. Actually, if I reduce my dose even slightly I get diarrhea.
