Faster RAM does improve performance in games, including loading times. But no, going from say 16GB to 64GB doesn't make a difference, unless the timings and/or clock are faster or you're trying to use a program that takes 20GB of memory on its own.

Faster RAM speeds (especially clock rate, to a lesser extent timings) have been shown to increase minimum FPS in games.

Sorry, I got really into PCs this year. I get real talkative about them.

Chill! You're droppin' knowledge; don't apologize for that.

Did you build your PC from some kind of guide or did you know exactly what you were doing from the jump? I'm only curious because if you used a guide or step-by-step instructions kind of thing, I'd love a link. I've toyed around with the idea of building myself a gaming PC but I'm the exact opposite of you when it comes to OS's: Windows confuses the shit out of me and I grew up with Apple products, so their OS has always been instinctual.

I honestly didn't even know what RAM did when I upgraded, aside from make your computer run a bit quicker and allow you to run more programs at once before it starts to bog down processing speed. I was just doing everything I could to keep playing games and not have to buy a new computer, because them bitches are expensive... but that's what was so alluring about building my own. It seems like building it yourself is ridiculously cheaper than buying a brand new name-brand.

Building can be cheaper than buying a pre-built, you have to be savvy though. For instance, I bought a used GPU that was a generation old, because I mostly play MMOs and RTS games, therefore I saved about 300 right there. I also didn't buy Windows (100 right there) and instead got a Windows code off a customers old computer they dumped off at our store ;) I bought my RAM when it was on sale for the lowest I've ever seen.

My coworker helped me assemble and choose the parts, he's much smarter than I. But now that he helped me do it, I realize it's fairly simple. Also, most electronics stores (Fry's, Microcenter) will usually assemble it for you for 80ish bucks, not including any OS or software installs.

A very important thing to realize is what your minimum needs are; do you play new FPS games, or stuff like PUBG? You'll need high end gear, and a good GPU comparison chart such as the one on Tom's Hardware website will tell you equivelencies between brands/models. Compatibility of any parts you use is also a priority. A newer motherboard won't be able to use DDR3 RAM for instance, you'll have to use newer DDR4. Motherboards have chipset compatibility which dictates which brand and generation of CPU you can use. GPUs are universal and any normal motherboard can take at least one PCI-e gpu (the format of any modern desktop gpu).

A great website for building your PC vision is https://pcpartpicker.com/

They usually compile the best prices from across the web for any parts, and their cart will tell you if you're using incompatible parts, so it makes things extremely simple. Or remind you that hey! You're cpu choice doesn't come with a cooler, you should get a cooling system of some sort! (Most AMD seem to come with cooling, Intel rips you off and leaves it out and STILL charges more, but they have better clock speeds and temperatures for high end gaming, so it's a trade off.

I think that site I linked has guides on building as well, so it's a great place to start.

I'll say this, a PS4 is 3-400 bucks right? Can play anything built for it. PCs are much more expensive and much more specific. But, a PS4 comes with a low end cpu and built in gpu, neither of which come anywhere CLOSE to the power a PC can have, and thus, the graphical output a PC can have. Also fun tidbit, the Xbox One and PS4 use the exact same cpu, gpu, ram... they're the same hardware wise, all that changes is the OS. Kind of silly lol. No difference anymore!

I spent 850 on building my PC, and that was with a lot of cheating, such as what I mentioned in the first paragraph. A decent modern GPU will run you at least half that, right up front. I think prices have dropped a bit, but the point still remains, that the GPU alone will cost you as much as your PlayStation :\ BUT! A good PC can do anything and play anything you want. You can have much better graphics. You can play games you never even knew existed. You can watch porn on it, use it for music, it's a complete multimedia unit obviously.

It's up to you whether you're willing to essentially blow a grand on that lol.

smoking inside is getting to be hard on the lungs, just did a big dab, but its the same with smoking too, breathing in the smoke hanging in the .air while coughing can be unpleasant, i remember when i use to hate rolling down the window to smoke cigs in the car. i hate to say it but once i started to use a vape pen it seems like my lungs have got much more sensative

Man, funny how I was complaining about not being able to get herb. I have some of the best stuff I've ever smoked in my life. Fruit loops, but don't let the name fool you this is a serious 55/ indica hybrid. Heavy hitting, wonderful taste of old school kush with my phenotype which is indigo with viivid orange pistils. It looks amazing and is very potent.
Smoked a quarter gram earlier and 6 hours has passed before I felt like smoking at all again. This is an all encompassing weed for me. It combines effects and properties of strains I love; white widow, blue dream, grapefruit, and blueberry. I can feel some of these properties of the strains pull through, it's amazing. I want to post a pic lol but I don't know how to do that hide it thing. Yeah, I am supposed to be in high tech not high detox and am pretty damn computer unsavvy. Rant all you want gravy lol I really enjoyed that information, I have a 2.6GHz i7 processor any good? I honest don't know and I really should know a lot more about computer hardware than I do. It would go right along with the linear algebra and computer programming I am teaching myself while I recover from fucking myself over completely.

^A first gen i7 cpu (10 years old now) is still good even today. They've held up very well over time. I'm currently typing this on a ten year old desktop with an i7-860 that clocks at only 2.8Ghz and it's fine for my multitasking/multimedia uses, however I don't game on this unit. Just do music/porn/movies/web surfing.

I will say however, that trying to upgrade an old computer is more expensive than building a new one IME. I got about 400 dollars into upgrading this one when I realized an extra 400 would give me a completely new PC with modern capabilities. Didn't like switching to Windows 10 (got win 7 on this one) but if you play new games, Win 10 is the best.

And like I said, a decent processor will get you far. But a new computer with an SSD will be shockingly fast, even with a slower processor. This unit I'm using has technically a better cpu for multitasking, but takes forever to load information off the ol' HDD. The new SSD in my new PC with an i5 and no hyperthreading is just SUPER fast. Sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and upgrade to new stuff.

You can hypothetically transfer the entirety of your old HDD, OS and all, to a new SSD. But a 1TB HDD costs less than 50 bucks whereas a 1TB SSD costs something like 400 I think. SSDs are still new and very expensive, so I run a 250gb SSD to boot my favorite games and OS, then a 2TB HDD for all my less played software and general storage on the new PC. 2TB on an HDD is only 50 bucks these days lol. It's why all new PS4s and Xboxs come with a TB, it costs them barely anything to give you that much storage. It's also why my wife's Xbox One is frustratingly slow in load times lol. Console manufacturers still haven't switched to the SSD technology, and likely won't unless you're willing to pay hundreds more for a console. And at that point... just buy a PC and plug in a wired Xbox controller heh.

When you buy a new console, you get your moneys worth yeah. But they're very behind PCs. HDD, only 8gb ram, Three gen old AMD cpus, integrated gpus which really can't crank at high frames per second. You're getting a 3-400 dollar pc that essentially can't do as much as a 3-400 dollar pc can do, but you do get uniformity in gaming which allows you to play ALL the games offered, no worries about needing newer parts to keep up.

My wife loves her Xbox One. I love my PC, it's really just a matter of taste. That said, when her old Dell laptop craps out on her, I'm getting her a laptop with an SSD. It's a must have. Not to mention, SSDs are much harder to damage and thus prevent the need to replace your laptop as often.

God damn I wrote a lot. Working at Fry's for 6 months really learnt me sum shit lol.

I bought a 1tb m.2 SSD yesterday, it was so cheap and amazon begged to give me free one day shipping for some reason. So come tonight I'll hopefully have a fresh, empty install of windows on my m.2, and I won't have to wait 7 minutes for it to boot anymore.

SSD - solid state drive? HDD - hard disc drive? Just guessing. I don't know much at all just have the mind to understand strange stiuff like this alien devices on a deep level. I mean I can't even see the electromagnetic radiation that connects this thing to my external hard drive and wireless network. I'm not even sure what frequency that is man, you would probably want something high energy so a high frequency? Wouldn't that shit interfere with radio waves that come and go and I'm assuming the wavelength of radio waves is used a lot like for listening to music in the car and maybe cell phones would be a bit higher frequency too. Trying to wrap my head around that. Yeah man I was looking into semiconductors, fiber optics, optics in general like lasers and companies that do stuff like that. But then I got high.

Man I'd build my own desktop just to learn about how computers work better. Maybe I should start getting a list of supplies together, I don't have a desktop, but a laptop.

I see customizable this would be too - like I could put more money it RAM than memory storage if I wanted to, choose and switch up graphics cards, etc..

I can run CAD software fine on my comp, got it partitioned with windows and OX but it would be cool to have more power, and then I would game as well since I sold all my consoles for dope last year. It's good for learning how to program as well, and I plan on getting really into photography and image processing. Object oriented programming languages that are music oriented, little bit of porn lol.

I have an Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB graphics card? Think I can game something on my computer as it is with that and 8Gb ram? I'd upgrade the RAM first for sure I wish I had at least 16 but at the time I remember that being pretty expensive.

Higher frequency is faster processing right? Since, more bits can be fit into a travelling encoded wave the faster rate of cycling per second? So the higher energy waves can transport data faster? Man I think about frequencies more in terms of light like electromagnetism though it's weird to me but isn't fiber optics just that. Laser encoded information travelling along waveguides, probably high energy to prevent information loss over long distances or be heard over noise. I know that has to do with this chaos somehow. Gotta understand wave/particle duality a little better maybe.

I recall being so high in college (edit... on shrooms) with some friends we couldn't remember how to turn a computer on. That there was such thing as a power button. The keyboard was like my brain forgot what it did let alone how to use it or the symbols. Buddy ended up spilling water all over his computer def broke some shit in it and then we gave up. Wanted to play geometry wars or some game like that.

It's not generally higher energy so much as it is higher frequency. Higher frequency = more calculations/operations per second.

Imagine it being like someone who can do 15 math problems a minute vs another person who can do 30. Faster frequency. If you add more people that's like having more cores in the CPU.

I'm really itching for that SSD to get here, good thing the UPS truck tends to come before 10AM.

I'm thinking higher frequency light is higher energy. E = hv, a constant and then proportional to the frequency. Yeah, so it's the same concept (frequency, with light it's just the numbers of cycles the electric and magnetic fields go through per second) applied to computing.

So instead of cycles, more calculations / operations which are the zeros and ones I'm thinking now the bits so you would be able to compute things faster. But then how does this differ from RAM? Is ram something similar to series vs. parallel circuits? Since, then you can process more different stuff.

I'm curious how they are getting to higher frequency processors as well. Like, what they are doing. The technology must always be changing, otherwise if everything was figured out wouldn't they just make the fastest one possible right away? How will that affect your life man lol I'm just curious I don't know much about SSD.

Will freeing up more memory on my comp help it in some way?

SSD and HDD do mean what you guessed. An SSD retains information without the need for a spinning disk, much like a flash drive, so it can retrieve the info much quicker. Also harder to damage, because again, no spinning parts. I don't know the science behind it, but you know how your HDD loses space over time as you rewrite parts of it to make room for new information? SSDs don't have that problem.

In terms of processing frequency, the technology has largely remained the same for at least ten years, hence why a first gen i7 is still current imo. However, like with cell phones, parts can be made much smaller now, meaning more parts can be crammed in, meaning more parts to do more labor meaning you can do things faster.

The customization of desktops is what I love about them. My current unit is very decent for gaming and when the gpu ages out, I can simply replace that rather than the whole PC. Your laptop's gpu is integrated, shroomey, meaning you can play low graphics games like fortnite most likely, but games like PUBG that eat up a gpu, that's a no go. I can't even play PUBG efficiently lol, but I'm not into the whole Battle Royale craze.

Also, I have glass casing, so I can see all the internal parts as they function, and almost all of the parts have customizable lighting. So while no one but my wife and I ever see my computer, it looks cool as fuck lol. Letting the RGB lighting on the front fans phase between different colors while I trip really amps up visuals in my bedroom lol.

Again, not a derail so keep this convo goin', I just wanted to drop this here because Mac Lethal is the fuckin' man and this shit had me geekin' like the whole way through:

^^I'm pretty sure that was the best part of that movie, and it was like the first scene iirc.

really sucks too, because I had such high hopes for that one and it was the kind of movie that finishes and leaves you feeling just little bit dumber than you were before it started.

^I enjoyed it throughout, but like most comedies it lagged towards the end.

That was the funniest scene tho heh.

my new battery has a temp thing where you can change it from 3.3 up to 4.8, what setting would be best for wax or for cartridge.

I would get it as high as you could go, to be honest. That's not from experience, though, just from what I've read and heard about.

But on that note, my main flower connect lost his Colorado plug recently. Somehow he's managed to switch his game over to wax, though? Anyways, I have a Kandy Pens Elite arriving some time today via USPS, and I went ahead and bought two grams of Ghost Dawg and 1g of Dawgs Waltz, both indica shatter and in super legit packaging. It says manufactured in Boulder, CO, though, so my guess is that he kept his shatter plug but somehow lost access to the flowers. It's a shame, really... but I'm super excited about trying out this dab pen when it comes. As satisfied as I was with vaping flower, I think this is gonna blow my fuckin' head off.

Luckily we can still source locally but the weed's just not the same.

I actually think I'm gonna give it another watch today. That scene made me wanna give it another go. I was also watching "Best Fight Movie Scenes"-type of videos on Youtube while I was playing the waiting game earlier today, and I definitely have to watch The Warrior again, specifically because this scene popped up in one of the compilations, and this is like the tamest fight in the movie:

i haven't really gotten in to vaping flower, how is it compared to smoking? i think your connect is switching to wax because it probably easier to ship. i just got this cartridge the other day that was supposed to be around 91%. it is really good maybe the best cartidge i've gotten so far. well after all that vaping im going to smoke a bowl of gelato

Took a three day break and then got fucking lit on Halloween. Got the munchies so bad I had three dinners that night.

I regularly take walks with a friend as we smoke a 1-2g joint. I end those feeling pretty much just as high as killing a half oven in my PAX 3, which would be .3g -.4g MAX vaped for one session at 380F and then a second session at 420F-435F after a quick stir. The sessions last about 4 minutes before I start to notice a change in flavor, and in those 4 minutes I'll get about 15 amazing pulls midsession and maybe 10 lackluster ones at the start and finish (as the oven heats up and then again when it's started to vape through all the psychoactives that the temperature can handle.)

It's actually insane, but most people don't feel that way. idk, man, I've figured out what works for me, that's pretty much all I can say about that. I love it, and haven't smoked anything solo since I bought my PAX 3. Been strictly vaping weed since, and then when I do roll up for one of those walks I make sure to have a roughly 3:1 ratio of mixed regular weed:AVB. It fattens the joint, doesn't take much from the taste, and I've asked those I've smoked it with and they say that if anything the high's more mellow with the J's I've been coming out with since I started using a bit of already-vaped-bud when I twist.

Congrats, man! I thought you moved to a different state and lost your access or something... Where there's a will there's a way, though! I'm happy for you, man, hope you still have more for yourself.
