if straight people are allowed to marry the one they love then i think gay people should be able to do that too. it's called equality. i agree with the u.s. supreme court.

Mrsnow - You use this as the basis of your opposition to gay marriage. The bible says marriage is for procreation yet not all married couples procreate for various reasons. How do you account for this contradiction in your logic? Several people have asked you this and similar questions and you have chosen to ignore all of them. This is important because it's what you claim is the whole point of your opposition. You really need to respond to this or forever be known as a bible thumping idiot. Think carefully. It should be obvious from the reactions by now that you will be ignored and dismissed as a hick who lacks critical thinking skills and therefore can't have any kind of meaningful discussion. Marriage is whatever you give it. You "HATE" anyone who's against marriage. "Marriage is about love".

Not IMO. Marriage has nothing to do with love, it's just another label like gay, straight or bi-sexual.

I believe if you truly "love" someone then there's no need to put your money up like that. Marriage is just another big money thing IMO. Cuz if it fails then you gotta go thru a pack of shit like divorce, lawyers, etc. I rather live with my S/O without having to go thru those pointless traditions.

My aunt has been with her boyfriend for years an they've never gotten married. They're together. They love each other. What's marriage got to do with anything?

Marriage is a big deal because it is needed for certain issues that come up, like the right to visit in the hospital, custody, inheritance, legal issues, financial issues, living arrangements, citizenship, etc

Yup - sadly its about the legal ramifications. Without that piece of paper then regardless of how long you have lived together means nothing!
 
In my country we have "Common-Law Relationships" where the couple is still considered married and it's considered lawful. I guess all that legal stuff comes with it?

Is that not how it is in the US as well? Or worldwide?

Well, not in my country (UK) although many people mistakenly think that is the case. It isn't.

I'm from a country in the caribbean, I rather not say but I know that this is the case for us.
 
I love how people opposed to gay marriage want to refer to it as being "uncivilized". Throw your ideas of civilization out the window. The world is and never has been a civil place as far back as history can tell. Change is key if we expect to make it as a race.

Equality means equality. Think logically. Religion is NOT logical, if you're going to go by the book. If God does or did exist, I am pretty sure it would approve of gay marriage. I know this because my intuition tells me so. Marriage is nothing but a legal title anyway, as has been pointed out. Two people do not need to be officially married in order spend the rest of their lives together and be happy. And OP still has yet to acknowledge the fact that many married people choose not to procreate.

Blah blah blah. Don't marry someone of the same sex. Problem solved. Move on with your life, it literally does not affect you at all. Hatred is not healthy. Find more productive ways to let out your negative emotions. Start working out, move up in your career, learn to be loving and kind and you will feel much better about yourself and the world around you.
 
The problems lie in the near future.......2 gay men wanting to baptize their adopted children, I can guarantee you there will be priests that will not allow a baptism, they will either be fined or jailed if the gay couple decide to complain........the same thing goes for gay couples that want to get married in strict orthodox churches.......the couples will be met with resistance.......there will be a lot of protesting & people backing these priests & bailing them out.

It's such a shame that we as a country have come to a division.......I will not judge anyone, I will let God judge them.

We have become a world w/o morals, we have lost our compass in the woods & can't seem to find the path out.
 
pastors/ priests should NOT be forced to preform gay marriage ceremonies, thats the same thing as forcing a hindu to eat beef... its wrong.

a priest should not be forced to go against his religious beliefs, nor should anyone from any religion.

I agree 100%.......but the battle for their faith is coming rapidly.......these law makers are changing the constitution right before our eyes on every topic, not just gay marriage.

IMO, the govt & supreme court will rewrite the constitution to fit today's society, & here lays the problem for Christianity.......the words of the bible NEVER change, but today's society tries to change the bibles words to fit their life styles.

they're not rewriting the constitution. they're ensuring that it is enforced correctly. and when it comes to the bill of rights, their opinion generally matters.

@Smackydowners : so do I, but nobody is making any church do that. There are Churches who do it anyway... because they want to.
