Gibberings CXCV - Back in the day we'd change a thread title and it'd stay changed

Bitch? Moi? :D

fair enough

Ock, I had to go searching through the crew name change thread and found they'd changed the damn forum name after 2 mins of searching tut, you know how lazy I am. Staff Infection indeed 8(

Ha, great to see ya about flower <3<3<3 (err, I mean cabinet =D)

Overcrowding is not generally a problem on our quaint little trains %)

Yeah. We watched a documentary about the railways with that grey-haired old guy out of the Apprentice recently, and they covered the nationalised train service in NI. It looks great. But not much different from our local train service. All that stuff you see in the big English cities looks like a different fucking planet.

Cheers :) If i fail at this I may just run away and live in the fucking woods with all my kit ;)

Well, I hope you can at least learn enough to be able to wire up your wee campsite/commune with electric. ;)

Seriously though, good luck with that opportunity. Am I right in thinking you're in your thirties now, Tangy? Or close, anyway. Not many people get the chance to become a time-served sparky at your age, that's for sure. :)

Electricianning looks like hard work but also quite rewarding, not just money-wise, tho they are indeed some of the better paid tradesmen. I'd have myself killed within days, I've done electrical engineering work but nothing that wasn't low-power or in any way approaching 220v, I've always been terrible at home wiring.

Not quite. I'm 29 late July, felix.

The guy did mention my age actually, but went on to say we'll all be living longer blah blah and retiring later by the time i'm whatever etc. Heh, that was a very lazy sentence.

Age has got fuck all to do with it mate - its all down to intelligence. I'm unfortunate to live in social housing, so any problems we call the housing association. I've lost count of how many times we've had 'electricians' in to sort out a problem, and they've left it in a worse state than it was. I've then had to sort it out myself, but couldn't complain because I'm not supposed to do that. But if you want a good job doing, do it yer fuckin sen... Electrics are easy, you just need to understand circuits and ohms law. The bit I wouldn't like about being an electrician is crawling around in tiny loft spaces in the middle of summer...

I would even say that any cunt with an 'O' level in physics could be an electrician - unfortunately most of them haven't even got that...

Most of what you need to know about electricity is as follows:
  • E = I * R
  • P = E * I
  • Things in series have the same current flowing through them
  • Things in parallel have the same voltage across them
  • The voltage across a capacitor cannot change instantaneously
  • The current through an inductor cannot change instantaneously
Such simple rules, such beautiful consequences .....

Ay up Scotsman, I owe you an email.. :)<3

I was fortunate enough to get an apprenticeship but that was through luck really, god knows how I got through it with my antics and I very nearly jacked it in with my slightly more immature head than I have now..

I'm forever grateful for the man who gave me a chance as I had zero gcse's.. I'd be cursing flipping burgers or serving time for drug dealing if it wasn't for my trade :)

Electricity is one of those things you have to understand. If you don't understand, then unfortunately no amount of training will make it so...

I've a fear of messing with electrics, you can't see it, smell it or hear it until it's grab a hold of you and all those senses become present as you light up like a Christmas tree.. that's probably more to do with knowing nothing about it though.

I'm learnding!

Good, so will you teach the daft cunt electrician that wired my daughter's bedroom light so that when you turned it on, the bulb burned out. And the daft cunt electrician that left the hall light in a state where if you turned it on, the circuit breaker tripped out (lucky fuck)... And the daft cunt electrician that blah blah blah... Please don't be a daft cunt :)

I am on the train home. It isn't crowded but people are just annoying and there's a wee chav girl (Don's fave) cursing away on the phone who clearly has no manners!

Unfortunately, being an electrician doesn't just involve understanding electricity - if that was the case you'd be an electrical engineer. Being an electrician also requires the practical skills to (badly) chase out wiring channels, (badly) install sockets, switches, fused connection units etc, and (badly) provide a level of customer service such that even a poorly informed customer doesn't think you're a cunt.

also the skill of telling everyone they need their entire house rewired so you can take all their pension money.

Haha, yes there's that as Well :)

Most of the job of being an electrician entails drilling holes, crawling through tiny spaces, threading umpteen wires through impossibly small holes, installing sockets, switches etc. Then finally connecting A to B.

Don't wanna put you off TD, but that's what you've got to look forward to from laying out a fortune to pass their 'course'. Unless they're offering you an apprenticeship, in which case go for it.
