Qld
Having arrived on-site Wednesday in order to secure a close proximity camping spot for RaveSafe workers, I watched the festival grounds evolve into what was to become a great weekend. The local organisers were all very happy and cheerful, paving the way for a successful event. Problems were sorted with no hostility, despite the long hours some people worked. Production teams helped each other, and willingly shared tools, equipment and food. Even Spiro arrived with a smile, possibly because the infrastructure was so well sorted.
I spoke to many punters over the festival, with only a couple having anything negative to say. Some punters and workers had attended both events and remarked that the Qld one was much better. While there wasn't much green grass, it seems it was more than was in Shepparton. Local Bluelighters (and a non-locals or 2) all seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves
The toilets and rubbish areas were well maintained, even if they got bad for a few hours in-between. Showers were also available and made a big difference to many, particularly for those like us who put in some long hours.
All in all, organisers did a fantastic job IMO. Most people I spoke to were aware of who was and wasn't playing and didn't seem concerned in the slightest.
RaveSafe saw relatively few incidents and were involved in only one potentially serious intervention. Sunday was hot so the team stayed on the main dance floor for many hours, cooling people with spraying and offering out free ice cold water and sunscreen.
The performance highlight for me was Raja Ram, not only because he is an old dude like myself, but because of the energy he put into his set. Fuckin' Fantastic.
So, unlike many of our Victorian buddies, the Qld event was considered by many to be a great success. It was certainly the event highlight of our year. Well done everyone!
