Long time lurker and have found so much info over the years, great site/
I have just joined though to help a family member detox off heroin that he has been smoking for around 18 months.
We have decided to try a rapid detox and have subutex, lyrica and diazepam .
Not sure where the best place ton post for advice so any pointers greatly appreciated.
Think my starting point would be the heroin mega thread.
Anyway off for a read .

Welcome to BL:)

I was a heroin addict close to a decade I was in and out of detox so many times with no success until I went on Suboxone when it came to Canada. They started me in detox got me to a stable dose then set me up with a sub doctor stationed at the local methadone clinic when I got out. Ever since I haven't touched heroin only the Suboxone now its still an opiate mind you so don't think I'm clean but its made my life 1000× better than it was doing heroin daily.

Welcome. I just did a rapid detox a little over 4 weeks ago. Right now I have a naltrexone implant in that will block opiates for upto 3 months. If you can get some gabapention it will help with the cramps and restless legs. I was also prescribed clonidine to be used on a taper schedule over the course of 3 weeks. Along with benzo's to help with anxiety and sleep. In no way is getting off opiates a fun process. But you need to understand if they aren't getting clean for themselves they will just go right back to using! I speak from experience. Just know that most people will slip up. They have to completely change theirs friends, lifestyle etc. but the cravings will most likely never go away. You have to learn to understand what triggers you to want to use and stop yourself before you get to that point.
