Now us indie-dance fans don't have a place to chat. We get booted out of the house thread, the electro thread. The techno thread. We have no home.

Well welcome to your new home. The indie Dance thread.

Now to start off I have no fucking idea why it is called indie dance on beatport. I just go with it. Artists that define the sound I am talking about.

Boys Noize
Crookers
DIM
LA RIOT
Rambrandt
some Justice
Japanesse Popstars
MSTRKFT
..............

Hopefully this can a home for discussion, letting people know about new gems you have stumbled across. And of course flaming from the haters.

Discuss!

So first question, why the fuck is it called indie-dance?

I dont really see "Indie-Dance" being a genre.....
I feel that the artists you listed can fit into other genres

for the record, this is the hipster thread ;)

I don't see it being a genre either. But they have a similar sound. Well maybe if you cast your genre-phy-ing skilsl over the artists above maybe we could see a trend and indie-dance could be relabled?

Anway, I can change the title to indiedance/nu disco artists on beatport :P

I think CC are very indie dance, but do they belong with the artists above. I have no f'n idea. Hence the need for discussion. As i'm really confused.

ps. what does "ftr" stand for.

yeah, the indie dance term totally irks me. i am of course fine with the nu disco part of the beatport designation ;) what i want to buy right now is electro disco house bangers. i don't really appreciate having to dig through hipster stuff like css and hot chip for it but whatever. here's what i bought this week in this category:

Christian Falero - "Gimme Drugs" (Hotline Remix) - [Nervous]
Zero Cash - "Give It To Me" - [What What]
Vitalic - "Poison Lips" - [Flashmob]
Martin Solveig - "Boys & Girls" (feat. Dragonette) [Mixture]

... but i'm playing this stuff with electro house, breaks, etc. a few other artists i purchased in this lot were angry wasp, boys noize, deadmau5 (:o), beat assassins, dj straw, neurodriver, and dirtyloud. if anyone else understands the vibe i'm trying to capture please post up some track suggestions! digging through all of the fuzzy indie stuff is getting tiresome when i just want some electro house that has been fisted with disco.

may I suggest then. I know the sound your after, I've spent ages trying to find it. i like those tracks, and I might download em.

bag raiders - fun punch (bag raiders remix)
bag raiders - nill by mouth (knightlife remix)

maybe
symbolOne - love juice (moulines remix)
puzique - don't go - origonal mix

tell me what you think of these. I have some similar to these... thanks for sharing.

I feel indie-dance/nu disco has such a range. It needs sub genres...

disco bangers
chilled disco
noize bangers
experiental indie
big room electro-indie-dance

just came up with these on the fly.

Martin Solveig - "Boys & Girls" (feat. Dragonette) [Mixture]

i like the ples petets pilous remix of that.

Because Beatport are retarded? ;)

If I were going to label something indie dance, it'd be stuff like:

Hot Chip
The Klaxons
LCD Soundsystem
The Presets
Cut Copy
Architecture in Helsinki
The Rapture
Metronomy
Passion Pit
Ladytron
Midnight Juggernauts
Does it Offend You, Yeah?
Art vs Science
The Sounds
New Young Pony Club
Shiny Toy Guns
Soulwax
Digitalism
Late of the Pier
The Go! Team
Empire of the Sun
Pnau (their early stuff is pretty much house music, their latest stuff is somewhat housey but sometimes strays from the 4/4 beat).

I tend to agree with everything you have said there. But I feel boys noize stuff is not electro house, is not very 4/4 housey.

I feel mstrkrft is not really electro house either. But rather more indieish. But the stuff beatport places in this strange place has a distinctive sound over electro house. Fidget house sounds someone different this sound as well. Fuck I hate genre's.

But owe how I enjoy some of the music that lives in that place beatport called indie dance/nu disco.

thanks for the recommedations! the love juice track was the closest to the sound i'm after. at this point i think i'm going to mostly abandon my search on beatport. they are really just throwing all manner of shit into this category. aside from the multitude of tracks that are basically indie rock with some effects and sequencing, a bunch of that obnoxiously slow trendy business people call "space disco" is now making its way onto the site.

Can't believe Chromeo hasn't been brought up yet!
Le castlevania disco probably fits in here, too.

Rated E and Sykik got most of them I can think of

Ok now to get past the house keeping and into the discussion. Anyone keen to discuss some gems they've found in whatever genre name were talking about. I say restrict it to nu disco/indie dance.

OK I have a dark secret I would like to reveal: I do own a copy of Soulwax' 'Nite Versions' CD, and some of it is damn good!!!

Here's my absolute fav track from it - Soulwax & DFA - Another Excuse - it's got elements that are cheeky as hell, yet also has elements that are deep. I fucking love it!!!

Does this allow me entry into this thread?

There is no entry standard. Appreciation is required. :) I always loved that sample. Is it good enough for what your paying!!! Soulwax where great when I saw them last year.

A bit more glitch/indie/nu disco version below:

Soulwax - NY Excuse (Justice Remix)

live its a great track to a roll into... by just building up, going silent, then. "this song starts now!"

Can you guys stop arguing about this genre and that genre? Can't we all agree that it's just "ACID MUSIC"?

Got to see le castle vania yesterday...RAVE IS KING!
