Remeron or Effexor XR?

Well, since both drugs seem to work on serotonin and norephedrine, I was wondering which AD most people have had better success with? Also if taking GHB with Remeron or Effexor XR is a problem ? SSRI's don't seem to do much for me at all. Paxil worked pretty good for anxiety, but also turned me into a zombie and made me depressed.

Opinions/Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Also, the reason I'm throwing Remeron out there is because, I have a loss of appetite. Lexapro aka Cipralex here in Canada shot my appetite to hell, and I've heard that while on Remeron you can eat a lot better. I'm not worried about weight gain, if anything - I could use the extra weight right now.
 
Id go with the remeron first. Mainly because if it doesn't work it will be much easier to quit then effexor.

Also effexor can cause major weight loss. I lost about 10 pounds on it in about 2 months. I found it very hard to eat while i was taking it.
 
remeron made me pissed & tired 24/7...didnt like it much, never tried effexor though, but , as someone else said, you might wanna try remeron first cause itll be easier to quit
 
I would also say Remeron.
It worls quicker than most antidepressants. (you only have to wait 1 week to feel antidepressants effects with Remeron, more than 2 weeks with SSRIs or Efffexor).
And Remeron is very useful to help you sleep, which is a good thing.
 
anyone know if GHB is safe to take with remeron or Effexor XR ?

I would say that it is not safe to take Remeron while being on the GHB effects: it would the most probably boost GHB and CNS depressant effects. But if one is genarally in remeron, I would guess that it isn't dangerous to take GHB, as far as one wouldn't take the tablet while the GHB is kicking...

I''ve been on Remeron for about a month now... I'm up to 60mg before bedtime nightly... works well for sleep... hard to get awake though, that's the only downside so far... good antidepressant/antianxiety pill...
 
I have used both of these drugs. I am just now starting to feel better after going off of Effexor - it took at least one month before the shocks and nasuea left. I hate that drug with a passion and don't recommend it to anyone.
 
In my personal experience Remeron caused more problems than it solved. I've never tried Effexor.

Not only did it seem to make the symptoms I was taking it for worse, I also became very dependant on it to sleep.

you wish it were don't you? :) well nope it's a tetracyclic antidepressant. i suggest you try anafranil which is a tricyclic antidepressant. i say this after having tried lustral and remeron..
 
oh im not taking either of those, just curious as i have bad depression and anxiety that is getting worse by the second....
also i have bad insomnia which is only cured by the 110mg of methadone i take daily.
 
^ to both of the above posts.. I couldn't agree more.. ttocs, is weight gain a serious issue to you?.. because I didn't think it would be for me and Remeron made me pack the lbs on BIG TIME.. but I was able to lose it all as soon as I got off of it.. Not only does Mirtazapine increase your appetite, but it slows your metabolism as well.. I haven't experienced Effexor to say which is better for your situation tho.. just a thought for ya..
