Hello All.
I can read some people's struggle on here. I too have had anxiety which leads to insomnia for most of my life. However on the occasion that I must sleep before a flight, exam, or important cricket match(as a player) or other stressful event I have used Zopiclone and it has worked. Now I don't see it working at all at 7.5mg. This pill has been there in times of necessity and have usually only used 3 or 4 a year. Now it doesn't work, ANY IDEAS FROM YOU WOULD BE APPRECIATED? Plus my doctor has just prescribed me to see if that helps. What do you think?

If only using 3-4 times a year then temazepam would be wonderful for your sleep I imagine.

Zopiclone IME is worthless.

zolpidem is way better, but it's still pretty shit for sleep, it just has a freakier buzz which is why I like it-things are sure to get weird on Ambien.

But for sleep, like I said, neither are too effective, especially when you compare it with something like alprazolam, or triazolam.

For someone using one 7.5mg zopiclone to sleep 3-4 times a year, the mention of triazolam is unnecessary, sure it's stronger, but its not gonna happen.

Eddied I'm giving you a thread for your question, just so you get a good amount of answers.

I concure with most here - zolpidem is the way to go. I mean, tolerance to both can build fast, but I think it took more time for me to develop a tolerance to zolpidem than zopiclone (although, the w/d from a long rather intense zolpidem habit really really sucked). In any case, 7.5 zopiclone not even all that high of a dose. Doubt that is needed for it to put me to sleep back in the day... (thank god those days are OVER). Plus with zolpidem you don't get that nasty metallic taste in your mouth (although I did notice this went away, and I didn't mind it as much before it did, as time went on)...

But zolpidem will cause you to experience some freaky stuff (hallucinations, heavy visual distortion, black-outs) if you don't get to bed in time or can't sleep despite being medicated... that and sleep-activities (walking, cooking, driving, sexing) are fairly common. Scarier than benzos in my opinion, at least those won't cause you to sleep-drive your car into a tree.

QFT!

With zopiclone I will often take late night journeys throughout my house. In fact the other night I cooked some mac + cheese, and ate it :S Can't imagine it wouldve been too good considering cheese powder was all over the stove lol.

And if I don't sleep in time, I see intense battle scenes going on all over my bedroom. I'm talking imperial Chinese warriors battling hardcore. But tolerance does build fast. 7.5mg worked for 2 days, then I needed to use 15 for a few, then 22.5mg. I only really take it after I haven't slept for 3-4 days straight (not from drugs just normal insomnia)

I don't like any of the z-drugs, I find them all ineffective and laden with unwanted side effects, and totally disagree with anyone who thinks Z-drugs are safer than classical benzos. I agree with the temazepam suggestion. Benzodiazepines are great when used correctly and efficiently, not as a routine sleep aid, for which the best cure is exercise

Triazolam and Alprazolam albeit extremely effective when used correctly, is totally unnecessary for the OP for 3-4 times a year, but I think ZNeg was just comparing z-drugs to potent short acting benzos, which of course pale in comparison, I highly agree.

I've been prescribed everything for sleep, and of course, halcion and xanax are the best for sleep when taken sparingly, but I stick with temazepam mostly unless I have temazepam-resistant insomnia before a big day, then I'll break out the halcion or xanax.

But yeah, 3 or 4 pills a year? temazepam will be your best friend.

As long as you take the stuff as directed (15 minutes before sleep, lights off, etc.) none of that will happen, or happens very rarely. It's people like me and you who pop a couple with the lights on and while doing something else (like being on BL/the intranets) who end up experiencing these phenomena. Normal people taking it for legitimate purposes normally pop a pill, turn the lights out and assume sleeping positions.

Actually, I believe that you are correct. Computer screens keep people awake.

However, Z drugs have a different pharmacological profile than temazepam/classical benzodiazepines do, I think the different profiles can account for people's varied preferences.
