zolpidem tartrate and imipramine. Ok to mix them?

zolpidem tartrate and imipramine. Are these two safe taken together? I found this on the MIMS website which is abit worrying:

"There have been isolated case reports of anterograde amnesia (imipramine) and visual hallucinations (desipramine) during coadministration with zolpidem. Monitor the patient for adverse effects during concurrent use."

I have just started taking the imipramine for my IBS symptoms....it does help in that area BUT it has kept me awake now for 4 days!! thus the zolpidem to help me get to sleep but I dont want to wake up with anterograde amnesia haha!

Not sure what is causing the adverse effects with this interaction; perhaps some how the imipramine is lowering the dose at which people start experiencing these effects with zolpidem?

Try taking just one tablet and see if it helps you sleep. Or go to your doctor and explain it to him. If the zolpidem is Rx'd, tell him you looked up the interaction and were concerned.
