Zoloft and Amphetamine combo for depression?

I was just curious if anyone has ever been on this combo before. Due to poor parenting when i was a child, SSRI's have a bad reputation with me, so I'm negligent to start a anti-depressant.

I've been on Adderall IR 3 times a day for about 2 years now. I have been diagnosed with BPD and PTSD. The Adderall has worked like a dream throughout the 2 years or so.

What to expect? Any advice would be awesome.

24 year old
Male 6''1 170lbs

Thanks in advance

"amphetamine ↔ sertraline
Applies to:Adderall (amphetamine/dextroamphetamine) and Zoloft (sertraline)
GENERALLY AVOID: Several case reports suggest that serotonin reuptake inhibitors may potentiate the pharmacologic response to sympathomimetic agents. The exact mechanism of interaction is unclear. In one case report, a patient experienced jitteriness, racing thoughts, stomach cramps, dry eyes, palpitations, tremors, and restlessness following a single dose of phentermine ingested approximately a week after she had discontinued fluoxetine. Because of the long half-life of fluoxetine and its metabolite, an interaction with fluoxetine is possible. Similar toxic reactions have been reported when fluoxetine was used concomitantly with amphetamine or phenylpropanolamine. Additionally, some sympathomimetic agents such as amphetamines may possess serotonergic activity and should generally not be administered with serotonin reuptake inhibitors because of the additive risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A and 2A receptors. The interaction was suspected in a patient treated with dexamphetamine who developed symptoms consistent with the serotonin syndrome approximately 2 weeks after the addition of venlafaxine. The medications were discontinued and the patient was given cyproheptadine for suspected serotonin syndrome, whereupon symptoms promptly resolved. A second episode occurred when dexamphetamine was subsequently resumed and citalopram added. The patient improved following cessation of citalopram on his own, and residual symptoms were successfully treated with cyproheptadine."

I'm the same age as you and I weigh the same and I'm prescribed both Adderall and Zoloft. The combination doesn't effect me at all. I've been on Zoloft and amps for almost 3 years and haven't had a single problem.

I have not had that combo, but i was prescribed zoloft and wellbutrin. I know wellbutrin is not adderall in any way but the mildly stimulating affects of wellbutrin did not mix well with the zoloft. i enjoy amps and can handle them, but this combo did not work well with me. i just felt odd, its hard to explain. i find the zoloft to be much more effective alone.

I do have depression and mild add. is their something maybe more effective to combine with zoloft. Zoloft has worked the best for me so far in the way of AD's.

Thank you for that post, I took the zoloft this morning.. I've had trouble pissing and i felt like i shit out every ounce of water in my body.

I think I'm going to take it for another couple days, but It makes me feel fucking strange.. Not sure what the feeling is though.

The last SSRI i took made me a violent lunatic, so I think im going to tell my doc to put me on a benzo. She's been avoiding that shit. I just think they don't work for me.

I love speed too much to stop taking adderall. : p

I have been on all sorts of combinations for quite some time. I found a Doctor, who is a Psychopharmacologist which to me means he is like a chemist expert when it comes to the introduction of drugs to the human body. He starts off with an evaluation of the meds your Primary Physician have you on. Then, because I was there for depression, serious ADD, anxiety and recovering alcoholic - he started a year-long experiment on me.

He begins an introduction of antidepressants, anti-anxiety and ADD medications. Over the last year he has slowly tweaked dosages, replaced one antidepressant with another, etc. Kind of like your body is a recipe and he is tweaking all the ingredients to get the best results.

The bottom line for me it seems is Buproprion 450mg, Ritalin 40mg, Focalin 40mg, gabapentin 300mg (beta blocker), klonipin 2mg, clonidine (bp) .03 x3 each day, Seroquel 200mg and Nortriptyline 50mg....it is a long list but these meds and amounts have been carefully honed over the year by a specialist, and I am feeling better than i have in 20years. I have been told and for me I know that Focalin/Ritalin & Buproprion/Wellbutron make quite a successful combination for ADD & Depression.

The thing many physicians don't know is (as told to me by my doctor) to maximize results they should not hesitate to take you to the maximum dose of bupropion.

I guess there is one thing I feel I must say: If you are on multiple medications for chemical imbalances, depression, anxiety, and so on. Find yourself a psychopharmacologist / who must also be a Psychiatrist . Have your medications managed by a pro because everything, drug, your hormones, etc. is unique to your physiology - obtaining this kind of care will increase your chances of feeling well without having to be your own chemist.

FOR ME: I have been on combinations of all the meds from Zoloft to Buproprion, Seroquel, Ritalin, Dexedrine, Adderall, vyanse, etc.

One final note: I was tested for BP, and during the process the doc told me that if someone has BP coexisting with ADD -- you must treat only the BP because the ADD meds don't mix with those for BP; and the BP is the priority to treat.

Hope some of this helps. This is my first post here.
Thanks

Really good post! Welcome! I am struggling with an alcohol addiction as well my moms in rehab for it.
I noticed I wanted to drink more on that combo. Maybe it was my own addiction.

Even with therapy I still drank a lot ( like on the way to class at ten AM) I'm doing much better with with my drinking, but I feel I still something to help until I get my life in order, eventually being med free
