Zoloft + adderall/vyvanse

Anyone been on both of these at the same time? I'm diagnosed with atypical depression, social anxiety disorder and severe ADHD, I take a vyvanse every morning and an adderall IR every afternoon. My psych suggested I go on Zoloft too but I turned it down because of the risk of erectile dysfunction. But, I've thought about it and, if zoloft would help me, maybe the possibility ED problems would be worth it.

My doctor says that depression can be made worse by taking Rx stimulants and it is better to treat the two (ADHD and depression) seperately and one at a time.
He did say that once my depression has lifted he would not have a problem putting me back on Ritalin again (I was on it for a few years before).
I am on a tricyclic antidepressant at the moment as the SSRI's and SNRI's didn't work that well.
My depression is work related and as soon as I get myself sorted out I will reassess my situation and see if I need to go back to my ADD meds.

I didn't like hearing this, but accepted it eventually and think it was the correct guidence from my doctor.

Hope this makes sense and good luck.

If you're on tricyclics, you most likely have melancholic depression. My depression, atypical, is much different and tricyclics are ineffective for it.

Yeah, I would say that I have Non-melancholic depression.
But I was just trying to share on your question about being on both meds at the same time and IME.

I've been on a few different meds for depression/anxiety, but I don't have ADD. But I have combined SSRI's/SNRI's with dexedrine/adderall. IME the antidepressant stabilizes the mood throughout the day, so you're less likely to get a really bad comedown from the stimulant. I don't know if you get bad comedowns from your amphetamines, as I'm sure you're used to it.

But also remember the first couple days of taking an SSRI can be kind of unpleasant, so I'm not sure how that would react with you being on those stimulants, but it could be quite nasty. But people are sometimes prescribed both depression and ADD meds. I reckon that was a pretty shitty answer, but hey I tried!

Hi there Jackiesbabyy, I would really talk this through with your doctor. We're not a medical site and even if we were, advising someone on medication without a proper face to face consultation would be pretty negligent.. gaining other people's opinons/experiences can be useful but remember everyone is different, especially when it comes to psychiatric medication.

Perhaps you could give it a try and see how you go? Not all males get ED with sertraline/Zoloft. Alternatively you could talk to your psychiatrist about other options for your depression, perhaps? There're no contraindications to being on Adderall/Vyvanse and sertraline at therapeutic doses but SSRIs can be quite stimulating as others have said, especially in the first few weeks, so the combination could feel a little uncomfortable initially. I'd usually think that if someone had ongoing depression it would be wise to cut back on prescribed amphetamines and see if that helped, but I appreciate your ADHD is severe so this may well not be an option. Good luck <3
