Your look on Marijuana? Good or bad?

I think is it very possible to smoke cannabis everyday and still be productive in life, even if your reasons for smoking everyday are not related to chronic pain or other medical conditions. Cannabis is a short-acting drug; in my case the high lasts about 20-30 minutes, and even then, it's a very controllable high. It is very different than drinking every day. All alcoholics I know end up stumbling drunk at the end of the day, no matter what. It's as if ending up drunk was a goal in itself. Potheads, on the other hand, don't necessarily end up every night, stoned as fuck, buried in the couch, watching 5 seasons of South Park in a row.

Most potheads I know have different goals that they are trying to reach with the help of marijuana. Some like to smoke before composing or listening to music, others (like me) will smoke a joint before reading or before heading for the park,... IME it helps a lot with concentration and focus. I can read for days and days if I have cannabis and coffee. On the other hand, I can't even spell my own name properly if I drink for 3 hours straight. So it's an educated choice, I guess :)

And some of us just enjoy smoking for smoking's sake. The act itself works together with the physical and mental effects to just.... soothe yourself into relaxation, calmness, tranquility, whatever you want to call it. Me and Jon Stewart fall into this category.

...Ever see the back of a 20-dollar bill, on weed???

Hell, there are times where I chill the fuck out just from choppin' and spinnin' my bud. I mean, yeah, I obviously still smoke afterwards but the ritual, the habit as a whole can have an overall calming effect. Sort of like a distant cousin to the placebo effect (at least, that's the link I see in my mind).

IMO if you use it as a reward, that is the best way to get the most out of weed with out any negative bull shit. But most people don't do that, they use it to cope with boredom or depression, anxiety the list goes on.
I don't think weed should be used on a daily basis, unless you seriously have your shit down. Like you already have a job, or are still going to classes etc. I think heavy usage comes with consequences as it did with me, so all in all it depends on the person. But it is best used as reward, and not from morning to night.

I used to be an every day smoker, and in my personal experience it never negatively affected me aside from one legal issue I had with it. When I started smoking, my grades improved, my work ethic improved, and I was able to form closer, better relationships with the people around me. I have a lot of really good and loyal friends whom I most likely would have never met without my cannabis use. I think a lot of the talk about it making people lazy and whatnot is just people using pot as an excuse to do nothing. "I'm not lazy, I'm just high." I'm still pretty productive but I'd be lying if I said my productivity hasn't gone down since having to quite marijuana. As others have said it depends a lot on the individual, but I personally would say it is far more good than bad.

Weed is a fantastic drug and safe if used in moderation. I'm talking once a week max.

I think it is approximately as dangerous as alcohol.

I suppose I should be more clear. They are dangerous in different ways.

Obviously alcoholism is far worse than weed addiction, but I think weed abuse is easier to get sucked into and more common.

I think you'd find that assumption to be incorrect. I'd say with the general social acceptance and accesibility of alcohol you're going to find more alcohol abuse and addiction vs. Weed. But then again I don't really believe in weed addiction. while it can be habit forming, but legit, straight-up addiction I don't believe it.

Again my meaning has been misinterpreted.

Just because alcohol is more accessible doesn't mean it is more dangerous.

Imagine a scenario where alcohol and weed are both legal and commonly accepted. If you still disagree with me then I we will just have to agree to disagree.

Alcohol can cause physical dependence, liver damage, brain cell damage, mood swings, etc. If you were to use alcohol like most people use marijuana (being an alcoholic) you would be causing moderate to extreme long term damage on your body and mind, possibly resulting in death. I won't even bother going into the drunk driving/domestic violence such and so forth social problems with alcohol, but side by side weed is considerably safer. Not one death has been attributed in any way to marijuana (I know people throw this one around a lot) and the only physical/mental damage that it causes in the long term would be to your lungs. Not even if you're ingesting or vaporizing it.

How are they equally dangerous by any means?

EDIT: GenericName, it's funny you say that because in a way weed is easier to "get sucked into" probably because it is the safer of the two options. Basically anyone I've ever met who has an open mind about marijuana (quite a few that don't even smoke) have made points and agreed that they would choose it over alcohol and would have their kids do the same. My parents were one of those people, and told me when I was young that they'd much rather have me sitting around getting stoned with my friends then getting wasted getting into trouble and risking my life.

I totally understand where you guys are coming from and I agree with you. Like I said once the addiction starts and if you consume alcohol in the same frequency and severity as most weed abusers get high, you will be way worse. Alcohol as a daily substance is far far worse.

To say weed is harmless is incredibly ignorant.

Think of it this way. If we define "danger" to be (Ease of getting sucked into) * (damage once the addiction starts), then I think the two are relatively the same. They may be slightly different but not that much.

I have absolutely no problem with people using weed if they are able to do it responsibly. I wouldn't judge anyone unless it started to affect their daily life. I would also rather my children on a weekend night with their friends get stoned rather than get drunk.

Perhaps my opinion is biased because of my personal experiences. I had no problems and didn't abuse alcohol (except the rare bad binge drinking experience) but once I started getting high I was getting high daily, extremely often, and in large amounts and this heavily heavily affected my life.

I was kind of a dick before smoking pot, smoking weed gave me a perspective I had previously lacked that has changed my life positively in many ways.

Maybe it's because I have been addicted to harder drugs (opiates, benzos), but I find pot to be very forgiving on the body and mostly non-addictive.
