This is a no bullsit true tale.To set the scene,im in Hollywood USA(Hollywood is a dive).IM at the only dance club in town,"RED" a combination of trance,proggressive,hard and Nrg',Most of guys are dressed in black,The club closes at 3 AM, Its 2 am and im dancing very conservatly like everone else,then my mate goes to the bar for drinks,And Im "Absolutlly fuckin Rockin " i got into a "state" and forget where i was.I got into the "MELBOURNE SHUFFLE" .eventually i look up to see most of the club watching this freak (ME), i cowered off to the bar,when a girl(an ex sydney as i later found out ) comes over and says "oh i heard your accent your an aussie and you dance wierd you must be from MELBOURNE .

I had exactly the same thing happen in London. Was having a bit of a groove (yes, the Melbourne shuffle) in Fabric. This is slightly more amazing (though not much ) as I wasn't talking at the time (as you don't) - so no one could have picked an accent. After having one or two minutes worth of hardcore hip displacing, a girl beelined from the other end of the room and asked the obvious : "Are you from Melbourne??"
It's nice to know we're famous for more than ... umm... being south of Sydney... I guess.

Yeah even in NZ they look weird when the shuffle starts up. Was at a Tribal House night down in Queenstown and my legs started shuffling as they do and boy og boy did I get some weird looks. The funniest thing though was that someone from Melbourne also walked up to me and said 'Dude you don't know how to dance for shit!'- His idea of a good Melbourne club happened to be the South Yarra Saloon bar.

I went to a club called Red when I was in LA - wouldn't happen to be in a large basement-type Chinese restaurant/bar would it?
When I was there last year they were all doing something called the 'nordic', imagine dudes in huge phat pants looking like they are cross-country skiing without the skis - the shuffle would most definitely impress most of the clubbers in LA.

Thats an interesting story... but you know it really is easy to tell a melbourne dancer from other dancers... everyone has got their own style, but the melbourne style has got to be THE BEST. Wish i could dance like that.

huxley,this club was actully in Hollywood,Santa Monica Boulovarde,AND now that im something of an authority.Ive clubbed/ partied in Auckland,London,Bali,spain,hong kong ,singapore,and croatia ,Hawiae,johanasberg, And no bullshit nobody parties LONGER or HARDER than here in Melboune,i dare anybody to say otherwise. im not saying i/we/you are hero,s its just fact,
