I like escalators because an escalator can never break: it can only become stairs. You'll never see an Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order sign, just Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience. We apologize that you can still..get up there.
- Mitch Hedberg

A few of my faves...
It is odd how we sometimes deny ourselves the very pleasure we have longed for and which is finally within our reach. ~ Cynthia Rylant

Seldom, very seldom, does complete truth belong to any human disclosure ; seldom can it happen that something is not a little disguised, or a little mistaken.... ~ Jane Austen

“You don't want to love--your eternal and abnormal craving is to be loved. You aren't positive, you're negative. You absorb, absorb, as if you must fill yourself up with love, because you've got a shortage somewhere.~ DH Lawrence

Most of us who turn to any subject we love remember some morning or evening hour when we got on a high stool to reach down an untried volume, or sat with parted lips listening to a new talker, or for very lack of books began to listen to the voices within, as the first traceable beginning of our love.
~ George Eliot

Not sure if these have been posted, thread is too long to read. Two I like currently though are;

"People don't take risks so that they may die safely" - Unknown

"the dude abides"

-jeffrey lebowski (the dude)

"Donny was a good bowler, and a good man. He was one of us. He was a man who loved the outdoors... and bowling, and as a surfer he explored the beaches of Southern California, from La Jolla to Leo Carrillo and... up to... Pismo. He died, like so many young men of his generation, he died before his time. In your wisdom, Lord, you took him, as you took so many bright flowering young men at Khe Sanh, at Langdok, at Hill 364. These young men gave their lives. And so would Donny. Donny, who loved bowling. And so, Theodore Donald Karabozoz, in accordance with what we think your dying wishes might well have been, we commit your final mortal remains to the bosom of the Pacific Ocean, which you loved so well. Good night, sweet prince."

“The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.”

“One doesn't discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time.”
-Andre Gide

“Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box.”
-Unknown

"decade ago, I never thought I would be,
At twenty three, on the verge of spontaneous combustion.
Woe-is-me....I need you to see that I have had all I can take and
Exploding seems like a definite possibility to me." Brandon Boyd (Incubus)

"Eventually, alas, I realized the main purpose of buying cocaine is to run out of it."

“I've never had a problem with drugs. I've had problems with the police.” - Keith Richards

“Drug misuse is not a disease, it is a decision, like the decision to step out in front of a moving car. You would call that not a disease but an error of judgment.” - Philip K. Dick

“No drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power.” - PJ O'Rourke

“If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution -- then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise.”

- Aldous Huxley
