I know he was a harvard genius. It's still kinda weird

I really don't want this to turn into a political discussion but... When someone chooses to veer away from modern industrialized society, and go against the norms he is considered an outcast. Aristotle, was considered an outcast because his thinking was against the norm, and now we praise him in our history books. Ted's idea on society was all the modern technology, and conveniences we have today are destroying the world for tomorrow. If you disagree with that you really should study how taking one element out of a certain eco system has a domino effect on other biotic (living) and abiotic (not living) fixtures in that eco system. Just think of how many living things were affected just so you can selfishly drink a Starbucks coffee. We are suffering the consequences of of industrialized society today (with things such as Depression, Ulcers, Cancer etc). These diseases and problems were not nearly as prevalent in, if they existed at all in some societies pre-industrialized society. Unlike Ted, i am at peace with the idea that humans are creating their own demise. This is because it will not be me who will see the worst of it, it will be your kids and grand kids. If you honestly think that we will not see nuclear war within the next 50 years you really do have the good stuff. Just look around you right now, every material thing you have is there due to oil. When oil starts to run out in the next century you really think people are just going to sit back? This goes back to our reliance on industrialized society.

Hahah, yeah Dp, it is a pretty humorous quote...just reminded me of that terrible movie Escape from LA. Wow I haven't thought about that in years.

Man's main task in life is to give birth to himself, to become what he potentially is. The most important product of his effort is his own personality. - Erich Fromm

Most people die before they are fully born. Creativeness means to be born before one dies. - Erich Fromm

"Within the next generation I believe that the world leaders will discover that infant conditioning and narco hypnosis are more efficient as instruments of government than clubs and prisions, and the lust of power can be completly satisfied by suggesting people into their servitude, as by flogging them and kicking them into obidience" in a letter from Aldeous Huxley to George Orwell.

(it just stands so perfectly for the NORMAL human way of thinking and describes the core of a lot of problems, just as much as E = mc² means to science.)

"Rules are for the guidance of the wise, and the blind obedience of the lame."

''With one hand the past moves us forward, with the other it holds us back.''- from 'Frasier'

Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a condition to which they are quickly addicted.

We come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

''But only in their dreams can men truly be free. Twas always thus and always thus will be.''- Dead Poets Society

"They go on in strange paradox, decided only to be undecided, resolved to be irresolute, adamant for drift, solid for fluidity, all powerful to be impotent. The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close. In its place, we are entering a period of consequences." Winston Churchill

Less quote, more poem-

Red roses are so cliché—and a yellow rose did not say enough
A white rose speaks of purity—perhaps I should have reached for the blue
Though mysterious, that colored rose just did not seem to suit you.
I could have reached for the pink, but I held back
Though your presense gives me happiness—the pink just seemed to lack.
I needed something more—something that spoke of us
That said “forever is our friendship” and you’re the one I’ll forever trust.
And that is when it dawned on me—the colored rose I’ll give
The color of all eternity. The one that forever lives.
You might think this is crazy—like logic never once touched my mind
Perhaps you’re right, but this is the only way to state our friendship is eternal
And that even in the darkest light—you’ll always shine.
So I present to you a black rose—yes, go ahead and gasp in fright
But let me explain this to you and perhaps you’ll see my logic may be right.
A black rose is symbolized as death—thanks to Hollywood these days
But isn’t death the only thing that is eternal? Forever you live in memories
And this is my way of saying—that even in the after life
You’ll always be a best friend to me.
Nothing in life nor in death could ever change that.

“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.''

Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything that it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk everything, you risk even more. -- Erica Jong

"If you want to succeed in life, remember this phrase:
The past does not equal the future. Just because you failed yesterday; or all day today; or a moment ago; or for the last six months; or the last fifty years of life, doesnt mean anything. All that matters is: what are you going to do, right now?" - anthony robbins.

"And again, the Internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material." - Senator Ted Stevens

Because I am the quote master ;) Seriously though, I put time into reading quotes and saving websites in my bookmarks and once I have used a site up a bit, I try and find another and learn more quotes... I think this thread is very helpful, at least to me. I mean you could spend quite a long time reading this whole thread and it's filled with tons of great quotes.

"A winner listens, a loser just waits until it is their turn to talk."

"Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, anymore than standing in your garage makes you a car."

"Those who fail to prepare, are preparing to fail."

P.S. - I put at least three quotes in every post, so God only knows how many I've posted ha.
