He who knows others is wise. He who knows himself is enlightened.

If you are not part of the cure, then you are part of the problem.

The only time you run out of chances is when you stop taking them.

The best things in life are not things.

What you are is what you have been, and what you will be is what you do now
-The Buddha

When we judge something we only prove that we have an incomplete view of it

When one door of happiness closes, another opens, often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us.

Dp- I like all of the quotes on this page you have given:)

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.
Chief Seattle

Every part of this soil is sacred in the estimation of my people. Every hillside, every valley, every plain and grove, has been hallowed by some sad or happy event in days long vanished. Even the rocks, which seem to be dumb and dead as the swelter in the sun along the silent shore, thrill with memories of stirring events connected with the lives of my people, and the very dust upon which you now stand responds more lovingly to their footsteps than yours, because it is rich with the blood of our ancestors, and our bare feet are conscious of the sympathetic touch. Our departed braves, fond mothers, glad, happy hearted maidens, and even the little children who lived here and rejoiced here for a brief season, will love these somber solitudes and at eventide they greet shadowy returning spirits. And when the last Red Man shall have perished, and the memory of my tribe shall have become a myth among the White Men, these shores will swarm with the invisible dead of my tribe, and when your children's children think themselves alone in the field, the store, the shop, upon the highway, or in the silence of the pathless woods, they will not be alone. In all the earth there is no place dedicated to solitude. At night when the streets of your cities and villages are silent and you think them deserted, they will throng with the returning hosts that once filled them and still love this beautiful land.
-Chief Seattle, [text of Chief Seattle's Treaty Oration] (1854)

People only see what they are prepared to see!

Common sense is unfortunately not very common!

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding!

To know the not-Self in one's nature is the pathway to knowledge of the Self!

In the practice of tolerance, one's enemy is the best teacher!

Thank you, I have fun with this thread, whatever mood I'm in I try and find some quote that makes me feel better, so to say the least this thread helps me very much, as I'm sure it does others. The quotes you have provided are good too, I actually save all the quotes (that I like a lot) on my computer or write them down.

Here's some more quotes to add to this ridiculously large thread :) Which by the way has surpassed what I thought it would ever turn into.

"Live out the life that you dream about. Dreams are not only meant to be dreamt but also meant to become a reality. DREAM BIG, LIVE BIG!"
-Antonio Talbert

"Don't see others as doing better than you. Beat your own records daily because success is a fight between you and yourself."
-Mohammad Monis

People prefer to follow those who help them, not those who intimidate them.
-C. Gene Wilkes

The thought manifests as the word;
The word manifests as the deed;
The deed develops into habit;
And habit hardens into character;
So watch the thought and its ways with care,
And let it spring from love
Born out of concern for all beings....
As the shadow follows the body,
As we think, so we become.

That's all for now, I really like the last one I added, it remind me of another quote I really like a lot. By the way thank you to everyone who has provided quotes in this thread, it's become a great thread that I really enjoy reading all the time.

A few favourites from the often misunderstood Friedrich Nietzsche.

"The day's first thought.- The best way to begin a day well is to think, on awakening, whether we cannot give pleasure during the day to at least one person. If this could become a substitute for the religious habit of prayer our fellow-men would benefit by the change."

"Is not life a hundred times too short for us to bore ourselves?"

"Without music life would be a mistake."

"A gauge for wisdom.- The growth of wisdom may be gauged exactly by the diminution of ill-temper."

"For one thing is needful: that a human being should attain satisfaction with himself, whether it be by means of this or that poetry and art; only then is a human being at all tolerable to behold. Whoever is dissatisfied with himself is continually ready for revenge, and we others will be his victims."

"One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star."

Some more Nietzsche quotes for you DC :)
Bolded is one of my favs-but I like them all!
“I'm not upset that you lied to me, I'm upset that from now on I can't believe you”

"Remain true to the earth."

"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently."

"You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star."

"may the wind be at your back, and the sun upon your face, and may the winds of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars!" George Jung---

"Weather it's the best of times or the worst of times. It's the only time we've got."

"Nothing is true, everything is permitted." - Attributed to Hassan i Sabbah (the Sheik al Hashishim) by William S. Burroughs (in one of the Cities of the Red Night trilogy...I think the first book...), actual origin unknown (to me...)

"Buy the ticket, take the ride." -You know who said it.

"You can fall or fly, but you're blind 'til you've seen both sides." -um...I guess that was me. Found inna notebook.

Very soon Hunter and Bill will be on my forearms - on the right, above the face - "Nothing is true"; below the face - "Buy the ticket". On the left, above - "Everything is permitted"; below - "Take the ride".

The words I live by, often to my detriment. But fuck it, 'cause I know I'm alive, while I struggle to see life in all these grey city faces...

Peace-

Might have posted this one before but I like it a lot...

The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.

"We hypothesized that there would be a positive association between marijuana use and lung cancer, and that the association would be more positive with heavier use... What we found instead was no association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect."

"Nothing is true, everything is permitted." - Attributed to Hassan i Sabbah (the Sheik al Hashishim) by William S. Burroughs

This made me want to look up some Burroughs quotes, so here are some good ones I came across while searching around...

“I don’t care if people hate my guts; I assume most of them do. The important question is whether they are in a position to do anything about it.”
-William S. Burroughs quote

“In the magical universe there are no coincidences and there are no accidents. Nothing happens unless someone wills it to happen.”
-William S. Burroughs quote

“Happiness is a byproduct of function, purpose, and conflict; those who seek happiness for itself seek victory without war.”
-William S. Burroughs quote

And some Kurt Cobain quotes to add to the list...

"I really haven't had that exciting of a life. There are a lot of things I wish I would have done, instead of just sitting around and complaining about having a boring life. So I pretty much like to make it up. I'd rather tell a story about somebody else."
-Kurt Cobain

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not."
-Kurt Cobain

"It's better to burn out than fade away."
-Kurt Cobain
