I purchased a Extreem tester kit mid jan this year and the simmons reagent has gone off. It has got chunky bits in it already. How can this be. I have kept it in a dark cool place.

Surely they dont expire after only a few months?

One question per post at a time please :)

There are a few reasons why kits can go bad.

Besides not keeping them properly (which in your case is not applicable), the kits can become contaminated with the material they are testing.

For example, when you are doing your test, you should keep the tester at such a distance from your sample so that when a drop comes down, it has freedom from the lip of the bottle before it drips onto the substance. If the drop is touching the bottle AND the substance, then the substance can leech up through the the drop and into the container. It might not be a lot of substance but it can be enough.

The same goes if you doing have the lid of very tight, and you throw it in your car/bag/whatever and some of the reagent leaks down the side of the bottle and onto the paper with the colour charts on it. Those charts will burn and react again because there is a conduit you can get contamination of the reagent in the bottle this way as well.

chunky does not necessarily mean it has gone bad, could just have been some of the reactants have fallen out of solution.. do you mean it does not work? have oyu tested it on something that you you know contains mdxx?

Okay the tester stays in a dark cupboard and is not subjected to heat or anything like that.

When I use the bottles I dont let them touch any substance. sometiems it is hard to get the drops to drop out....

As for testing with known MDxx I have not been able to but will test inthe next few days to make sure it is definatley dead. It does not react with Methamphetamine however which to me means that its not reacting.

any suggestions?

It should react with even a little bit of amphetamine.

Another test you can always true is testing it with asprin. It should react quite well and is often used as a calibration.

I tested the Extreem tester with methamphetamine

The simmons does not work, it comes out a pale limey green with chunky bits in it and does not react AT ALL. Now i know that it is METHamphet and it should therefore react. The reason i know is that i have tested the same stuff from the same bag when i first purchased the tester.

Marquis is not all that flash in its readings either and I dont know about Robadope

Sorry we haven't got a definant answer. I think you should just get a new tester. You bought it mid-jan, its now Aug. Thats a fair amount of time. Anything above 6months especially with marquis and things really go downhill.
