Xanax why do I get these side effects

When I take xanax, usually just 1mg no more than 3x a week, I get very talkative, almost hyper, want to reorganize and clean things. It keeps me up for a little and then I pass out and get the best sleep in the world. I wish I could always function feeling like I'd taken a xanax. It doesn't really sedate me, I have anxiety issues and they're obsolete when I take a xanax, but I don't feel 'sedated'. I just feel good, free flowing thoughts, very talkative and up for almost any activities. Why do I get these side effects? Does this happen to anyone else? Right now I have pills that say R039 on them but this happens anytime I take one.

Those are quite common effects with xanax, it's probably least sedative benzo and actually can be even stimulating at some level. I guess that is the reason it is also very addictive.

You pretty much described xanax' effects. Now if you were to want to fall asleep and laid down and took some I'm sure it would knock you out, but taking a low dose during the day often makes people more interested in doing things, usually because they don't have any worries and want to take advantage of that feeling. I wouldn't say it's not a sedating drug though, just that it depends on the time and place you are taking it, as well as the reasons and the dosage.

Thanks for the new perspective. Seems like a viable reason for why I feel the way I do when I take it.

I get exactly the same way from diazepam.
I feel much more confident and I can just talk for ages to people I don't even know.
I really love this effect and I wish I could feel like it all the time.

Especially when people have anxiety, taking anxiolytics can often energize. Anxiety is exhausting and relieving that can provide quite a bit of energy. You also might have a slightly-higher natural tolerance so 1mg produces less sedation for you.

I think tommyboy is right (as always) and that if you took that, laid down in the dark at night to sleep, you'd probably pass out. Most drugs have vastly different effects given the context you take them in as well as the effects you desire and expect from them. You can't simply will drugs to have completely different effects, but desires and expectations can certainly alter the way they affect you to a degree.

Well xanax is purposely prescribed for people that have anxiety issues. it's main use isn't only for sleep. a friend in my group is prescribed it because she has a really mentally heavy and strenuous workload and gets anxiety from it. on days she feels super stressed out the doctor tells her to have either half or a whole xanax before her day starts so she can relax and slow herself down a bit and be able to think clearly and get on with her day.

When i have it i also feel really good for about 15 minutes and everything seems happier and funnier and if i stand up and try to walk my legs are a little wobbly but straight after that i pass the fuck out for a good few hours but i wake up super fresh its awesome

Yeah! I've thought of it like that, too. Like my thoughts are continously ongoing, sometimes I can't shut my mind up about anything going on. I work and do school full time, and manage my social life with my boyfriend - so that plays into a lot of it. I've been clinically depressed before..usually brought on by anxiety at first. I feel happy when I take Xanax because my mind is relieved from the constant thoughts and social anxiety I sometimes feel. This in turn makes me more energized and ready to do things because I feel relieved, like my body is free and I'm able to be who I really am.

Interesting what you bring up about a manic episode..how could it trigger one? If anything it was hypomanic..but the thought happened to cross my mind.
