So i got prescribed Xanax in January for anxiety, anyways felt I didn't really need it and only took it every once and awhile, didnt want to get hooked so i just saved them. Yesterday was the first time in 2 months ive taken them, put 4 .25's under my tongue (1mg) and i felt like i had horrible anxiety all i could do was lay there with my gf and she kept asking what was wrong cause i looked so sad. After about an hour i felt like my muscles were extremely restless and i couldn't stop shaking and lunging my body back and forth. I was in conscious but couldn't stop the convulsing. I looked up my experience online but couldn't find anything, is this a side effect?

That sounds unheard of, xanax should never ever do that. Ask your doctor about it, since he prescribed it.

It sounds like a paradoxical reaction. They certainly aren't unheard of. Did you loose conciousness during these convulsions? If so, it would probably be a seizure of sorts.

^ Alex is right, paradoxical reactions to benzodiazepines are rare but cases have been reported. Hyperactive/aggressive behavior and anxiety have been reported and are most common in adolescent/pediatric patients and patients with more severe types of psychiatric disorders. It is listed in the drug information insert that comes with alprazolam.
