So I've read studies stating that nicotine can reduce the amount of alprazolam in your blood/decrease it's effectiveness by up to 50%.. None of the doctors I've asked about this know anything about it, but I personally find this to be true. I'll usually quit smoking a couple hours before I take my xanax and don't smoke while I'm on it, but the times I just can't resist having a smoke it seems to completely kill my high and I have to dose again.

Does this happen to anyone else?

The nicotine in tobacco is highly addictive and can
cause pharmacodynamic interactions. Polycyclic
hydrocarbons and other tar-like compounds in
tobacco smoke can increase the activity of several
liver enzymes e.g. cytochrome P450 systems - primarily
CYP1A2 but also CYP2A6, CYP2B6 and CYP2D6]),
which are responsible for metabolising many different
types of drugs. Enzyme induction results in faster
clearance of medication from the body reducing
serum drug levels and decreasing efficacy.
from doing a quick google seach, yes.... nicotine and other compounds in tobacco smoke help eliminate most benzos more quickly than normal by speeding up metabolism of such chemicals.

also, tobacco is a stimulant, so it can also temporarily decrease the hypnotic effects of benzos. Personally.... I love tobacco while on benzos. It feels great to hit a cigarettes while sedated, I get little chills and goosebumps that go through my body. But since Ive been a smoker for a very long time, and had a benzos script for not quite as long, as I have no usable opinion on metabolism of the chemicals because I have never been on benzos WITHOUT smoking.

Hope that helps. Although next time I might recommend just checking google first, not that Im not happy to assist.

Nicotine has an influence of lots of drugs. It can worsen highs or improve them. For me the effect seems mire or less undpredictable.

would taking something like white grapefruit juice or tagamet balance out the affects of the nicotine and kinda make it so the alprazolam clearance doesn't go up or down?

This doesn't work that well for me, but I'm a heavy smoker.

If I abstain from smoking the shorter acting benzos hang around far longer for me. I can bring myself out of a benzo fog the next morning if I smoke shortly after waking up as well.

This might not hold true for everyone but for me cigarettes basically kill the effects of benzos. I do reach a point where the benzos will overwhelm any smoking I do to counter act them but I have to take a high dose and keep topping it up.

Nicotine by itself can have a large spectrum of effects in the right doses and without the other shit in ormal cigs, as alone it can be considered a nootropic. More specifics i dont know but I do know that E Cig nicotine only usage as seemed to help with my nootropic stacks whereas a normal smoke does not at all (the opposite) due to the other substances within.
