I thought this part was rather interesting:

"Coded information identifies medical conditions or medical tests that are reported by MIB Members to MIB under broad categories. There are also a few codes that are non-medical. Those codes report potentially hazardous avocations or hobbies, or results of a motor vehicle report showing a poor driving history. MIB has no actual “reports” or “medical records” on file, only the coded “resume” provided by the Member."

Sounds like drug use would be in the public domain after all, as many would probably classify it as a "potentially hazardous hobby".

Yes if it is needed, if it was to d with depression, definetly.

Seems like there are alot of paranoid, secretive people around. Doctors take an oath, they are not allowed to call the cops, or even tell another soul. If they did call the cops, so what? They cant arrest you for having done drugs unless to currently had some under your possesion.

And what doctor is going to write down in your medical record that you use mdma unless its vital (and you should only mension if it's vital information and relivent)

I live in the UK so I dont know if this applys to the US.

Here in Michigan, "Use of narcotics," "Use of cocaine," "Use of amphetamines," "Use of hallucinogenic drugs," and "Use of marijuana" are all considered misdemeanors.

Also its not just a matter of the doctors calling the cops. Its the fact that whatever you tell your doctor is permanently written in a medical record that really isn't as secure as people think.

Does that include prior use? That seems pretty ridiculous to me.

Seriously, if you were walking down the street and a cop asked you if you've been smoking weed, for example, and you told them yes, they could arrest you right there. Most likely they wouldn't, but in alot of the little hick towns around here, they just might.

I would hence to figure that most of the time your doc won't call the cops on you if you told him/her you use MDMA or other substance. Of course, this depends on the doctor, and as mulberryman pointed out in the above posting, some docs in these small hick towns and other conservative hamlets (in the south or midwest, for example) might think it would be "proper" to get the law involved. Out here in California, I have found that most of my friends who are docs are pretty open minded about such things.

In medical school, physicians usually have ethics training, and rest assured, this subject is brought up and discussed. It's clearly controversial and debatable. As many others have pointed out here, the most troubling aspect of admitting to your physician that you use drugs is that they will most always write it down. They do this for many reasons. Among them are:

1. They were trained to.
2. They are likely required to by law.
3. For liability/malpractice reasons. If you are discussing a pre-existing condition, or other drugs which may/will cause conflict with potentially prescribed meds, for example.
4. Insurance companies require records.
5. DEA/FDA requires it if a prescription is being written.

Doctors will write down what you tell them, period. If you do not want this info connected with you in any way, you are best advised to visit a new doctor, forgo using any insurance, and NOT using your real name, address, SSN, or other personal info.

Of course, failing to disclose medical conditions or drugs being taken on a questionnaire can be dangerous. It's possible to be 100% honest on this paperwork, but just don't use your real identifying info on any other forms, especially anything having to do with insurance.

Eh where the hell do you live in AUS? I've been waiting 6 months for tests at the hospital.
And my GP is a huge bias c*** who I've got in many arguments with just over infections and constant abdominal pain.

Fuck no I wouldn't tell them.

You know what?! We should get President Bush to walk down the street. Then some cop could arrest him for his cocain use years and years ago.

Michigan FTW!

I don't bullshit MDs. I have measurable heart damage from my history with IV meth/coke/heroin concoctions so these days I don't want to gamble with my life if my MDMA use is pushing any envelopes.

I'd bet half of Wall St is doing coke, especially seeing as money laundering is legal if your company is listed on the NYSE. The CIA too, probably doin' lines from here to Columbia. ;)

I told my doctor everything when I went in with a bad heroin addiction.
I didn't have anything to lose.

My old doctor had been through hell with me....I don't think I'll be picking up copies of my records from there, cuz god knows what they say about me. If i found a new doctor, they probably wouldn't give me a script for anything if they looked at my medical records from the past 3 or 4 years. Not that they scripted me anything decent ever, but I went in there for referrals to rehabs like 3 times.

BTW its off topic but my old doctor always had super pin point pupils, and would say shit like "well the majority of people who use opiates get addicted".....like he's above a junky like me just cuz hes got money and the ability to get narcotics scripted/ stolen for next to nothing. It may not seem like much, but his tone and demeanor and choice of words and pin point pupils immediately made me think that this doctor is all pharmed up.

i'm not that crazy, but on paper i probably look pretty fucking insane :\

edit: reading some of the other posts, got me thinking...about 2/3 of the time the doctor would just write that i had the flu or something on the majority of paperwork. I don't have to worry though, my pediatrician (who i went to from ages 0-19ish) has all my good old records. Then i switched to a new doctor who has all my bad records....and since i've been on 2 or 3 different insurance companies hopefully i won't be labeled an addict for life. I can tell already @ 22 years old after 7 or 8 years of daily skateboarding that I am going to need painkillers someday...my ankles, knees and wrists are fucking shot and they're the only ones I have for the next 60 years or so.

Man, havent really posted or been on here in a looong time, but anyway like someone already said, I dont think id let my doctor know either unless I felt that sick and thought the pills may have something to do with it. Only drug i do tell em i do is marijuana if they ask.

yeah i would only disclose if it was relevant. for example i rolled friday before last, on the monday picked up influenza + throat infection (still cant talk and its a week later :(), if he asked me then I would have said yes.

edit: this is a good thread with good discussion by the way :D

^ Strattera takes longer than 4 days to start having any effects.

Obviously if you read my previous posts, you know where I stand. Everything you say to your doctor gets written down in their records.
