Would I get prescribed Xanax for my anxiety?

Your wrong, I'm not asking how to get Xanax, I'm asking weather the doctor would prescribe it to me, so I know, so I don't waste my money. Catch my drift? Or am I being obtuse

@Tommyboy:

These findings suggest that, compared with placebo, the new-generation antidepressants do not produce clinically significant improvements in depression in patients who initially have moderate or even very severe depression, but show significant effects only in the most severely depressed patients.

there is also a newer study i saw that shows 1/4 people having worse depression from antidepressants. I know they do work for some people but i think you need to exercise as much caution going on SSRIs as you do benzos or other medications. At least consider all the research, as SSRIs and their side effects are also not something to be taken lightly.

@karma05: you will not be prescribed xanax until you've at least tried a few SSRIs, some doctors may give you a couple of weeks on xanax until you adjust to the SSRI but do not expect a full prescription. If anything you might get a prescription for lorazepam or clonazepam. If you are going to the doctor just to get xanax then i'd say yes you are wasting your time. As for if it it would help your anxiety that depends on what you experience. If you have panic attacks then yes, if you have social or general anxiety then no.

We're not your doctor - we're not going to give you an answer here (and even if we did give you an answer - your doctor will give you a different answer...so what's the point? SSRIs may help with your anxiety, same with benzos...but that's not a promise that your doctor will prescribe you anything in particular..).

We're not medical professionals here and don't know you as well as your doctor. It's impossible to know if SSRIs will help you since they do different things to different people.

I'm going to close this thread because all we're really doing is guessing. This is something you need to discuss with your doctor.
