This took place some time in the past...
It had been many years since I had last had wormwood, or more accurately, what was given to me as "absinthe jello shots" at a festival. I remember the jello shots kicked in quickly and left me feeling spacey with a touch of "zoom vision". Not quite visuals, but a general distortion in the spacial appearance of things. That's all I remember, as I went on to consume a bunch more drugs soon after.
Fast forward to the time in which this trip report takes place. It has now been almost half a year since I have indulged in mind altering substances. Prior to that break I had partaken on a nearly two long MXE bender. I will save my MXE retrospective for another time, but I will say that I still consider it to be a nearly miraculous substance. Two years of MXE use strengthened my spirit and actually did a lot to get me back on track. Prior to that I was a psychedelic mess who couldn't keep away from hard drugs at the same time, for many years.
Legal reasons now prohibit me from indulging in illegal drugs, or ones like MXE which are likely to cause a false positive on a drug screen. Fair enough, all good things need some rest, and half a year of sobriety has done me well.
So what was I doing with Wormwood and beer? Well I guess I'm one of those people who likes to kick back and relax, unwind, and give the mind a bit of a different perspective from time to time. Wormwood is legal, and I was reading about it, and it sounded interesting enough.
So I picked some up. Just plain chopped up Wormwood. Leaves and stems, apparently.
I rolled up a normal joint/cigarette sized amount in a paper and sparked it up. Wow, is that a harsh smoke. Incredibly foul, causing the mouth to salivate just to wash away the flavor. I couldn't finish a joint due to the flavor. I mean it tastes like smoking a plant that must be poisonous just due to how bad it tastes, one would associate that flavor with poison. I did manage to finish half of it.
I went back inside and started to feel different. At first there was a slight pressure in my forehead. Over the next few minutes that pressure built to the point where it felt like I was moderately stoned (although without the psychological effects). My body felt a bit more relaxed but I also felt motivated to walk around - or rather, go outside and take a walk to town.
The feeling was mostly good but felt slightly toxic at the same time. It's hard to decribe how, and I know somebody is going to come on here and post "you can't feel toxicity". Basically it felt good but my body was telling me this isn't something I should ingest carelessly. Heart rate was slightly elevated.
I guess then I wanted to see how it combined with alcohol. I wasn't expecting this level of effects from half a Wormwood joint, but since it seemed to have taken "full effect" I wanted to see how it synergized with alcohol (as I might make some bootleg Absinthe in the future).
This turned out to be interesting. Now I should mention I have basically no alcohol tolerance as I don't drink much any more. So to make a long boring story shorter and less boring, basically I drank 6 beers over the next 3 hours and did not get drunk. Normally 6 beers would have me slurring my speech, stumbling a bit, and make me probably want to lie down and do nothing. The Wormwood seemed to block the major intoxicating effects of the alcohol. After the 4th beer I went outside and took a few more hits off the Wormwood joint, which was again all I could stomach of the horrible taste. Then drank another two beers.
After the six beers were done I did not feel sober. No, I had the relaxed feeling of the beer, and the happy state of mind. Just no sloppiness or sick feelings. Also the beer smoothed out the slightly edgy/toxic feelings of the Wormwood completely.
I even had the motivation to walk a couple miles to get some food after I finished all the beer. I felt more like I'd had 2 or 3 beers.
So maybe that sounds like a waste of beer, but I found the synergy to be pretty unique. Sort of like being able to get a good alcohol feeling going without the sickish feelings and sloppiness. Probably at a party or in social settings this would be superior to alcohol alone. No slurring of speech, clearer and more accurate thoughts, etc.
Tastes terrible to smoke though so my next experiment will be some kind of oral ingestion.
