Withdrawal Anxiety?

titicaca2 could that be it? a little more in depth to my lung problem now...

It first started when I was 15 or 16, and I was in weight lifting class. I felt three pops followed with a lot of pain. I figured it was a pulled musscle. Until a few days later I became short of breath. The next day even more, until day four or five when even rolling over in bed was causing me to be out of breath with very heavy breathing. I finally went to the hospital where I was told my left lung had deflated and they had to put in a pump to refil it with air. I went into the hospital the first week of decemember, and two days before Christmas was stable enough to breathe without oxygen, and my lung was staying full of air. A week later Jan 2nd I saw my docotor for a check up. She had me rushed to the er. My lung again delfated (doctors couldn't find anything to trigger it, but said its commoon in tall, skinny, athletic men. which at the time I was 5'9 wieghed about 130lbs and was active). This time the lung wouldn't stay inflated.

The found little air bubbles in my left lung that kept popping. The removed that portion (the upper right, about 40% of that lung) from my body, and cemented what was left to my rib cage assuring it wouldn't happen again. I still had chest pain afterwards which led me to a lung docotor. I won't even try to spell what they are called. My lung was fine, oxygen levels never below 96%. He said he did everything he can do, every test and that's all. I seem fine. Well I talked to my regular docotr about anxiety.

That's when the xanax was given. After three or four months everything was gone. Then a few months ago returned. Xanax not helping at all. May I add it returned about a week after my last opiate high ever. (That's why I asked if its withdrawl, or just the fact it got so bad and the opiate is no longer medicating it).

Back to my lung. I have been to the hospital for it, and even when I get the feling of I can't breathe my oxygen level was at 98%. And my lungs sounded fine to them. So should I see a lung docotor and get it checked/examed futher?

Also here is an update. I saw my docotor a week ago. She has me on 40mg of Paxil daily, 1mg of xanax when I wake up, 1mg around dinner time, and 1mg before bed. The dinner one is as needed, and night time is to help me sleep. I have sleeping issuesf as well but she wants to focus on one issue at a time, and the xanax helps me sleep. Anyways after about a week, I no longer feel anxious or depressed, but the breathing issue is still relevant. Though its no longer all day long. It will come and go, but Is there for id say 90-95% of my day.

Thanks for the help everyone. I am very thankful for everyone who chimed in :)

I agree with Swimmingdancer's suggestion. Gabapentin and alprazolam (Xanax) will synergize with each other as they're both GABAergic drugs. Definitely don't remain on Xanax for an extended period of time; benzodiazepine withdrawal is hell. I've been on gabapentin for close to a year now and the only withdrawal symptom I expirience when I don't have it would be some minor anxiety. I am prescribed gabapentin for both a diagnosed anxiety disorder and restless leg syndrome. If you're truly in need of gabapentin, you may be able to find a doctor or addiction specialist that is willing to work with you if you tell them what's going on. It's not classified as a narcotic as you may know. Another option that could be useful for your withdrawal anxiety would be hydroxyzine (Atarax), another non-narcotic, first-generation antihistamine. It's definitely helped out with my anxiety before, which I found surprising because it's only a antihistamine.

*OOPS didn't see you found your answer right above my reply! Haha

Maybe you could ask your Dr if there is some form of councelling avalible.Because what it soundz like to me in my opinion is that you have a severe phychological addiction to opiate medication. My thoughts are reinforced by when you say you,ve nearly completely eliminated your opiate use.Which by the way is brilliant! So disscuss it further with your dr and see what she suggests good luck buddie! :-)

but I was depressed, and had mild anxiety (nowhere near this bad) before I became addicted. Noone ever seems to believe me when I tell them opiates aren't only for pain. There cure anxiety, and depression as well.

You may have a point there originally opiates were used to treat mild depression and anxiety before antideppressants were thought of!!

or mask it none the less
So true.

My Anxiety & Depression can be so bad that i am barely a functioning human being at times, i find Opiates to free me from these feelings and give me a sense of well being.

Yet it comes with a price.... When you try to go without/quit those feeling come back with a vengeance.

Good luck to you, i have some understanding of how you are feeling as im fighting the same battle, yet i also abuse Benzos aswell just to complicate matters :(
