Will terpenoids gives various flavors to marijuana?

They can be steam distilled out of the weed, making an essential oil. THC and other cannabinoids are left behind in the weed.

I have wondered what the effects of the terpenoids are. Do they have effects on their own or enhance the high? Do they survive the heat?

Caryophylline oxide is what gives cannabis it's distinct smell. Drug sniffing dogs are trained to smell it, not THC. Mahmoud Elsohly, the only approved grower in the USA, claims that the smell doesn't necessarily correlate to the potency. He claims that some potent weed doesn't have much of an aroma. Not sure if he means in cannabinoid content or effects.

If some terpenoids like Caryophylline oxide don't contribute to the high or smoothness of the smoke, maybe they can be removed to have a stealth weed. It could be smoked or transported without fear=D.

I'll post up an interesting article on the subject when I get home tonight. Needless to say, terpenes are an important component of cannabis. You can even tell whether weed will be stimulating or narcotic-like just by the smell in many cases.

Many of these terpenoids are almost identical in their chemical structure but smell very different. For instance, Myrcene, found in mango, pineapple and most cannabis, is chemically similar to Myrcenol, which is found in lavender. Mango obviously has a different smell than lavender. If a particular strain of cannabis makes a lot of lavender smells naturally, feeding compost made from mangoes would likely increase that plant's lavender smell.
