Will Psychedelics ever make a comeback?

It's all so ironic though, i mean the acid dealer is probably doing less damage to society and the individual than the bartender, yet one is illegal and bad and the other is socially excepted as a form of recreation
When did society become so whacked out, or has it always been like this.
 
being a psychedelic LSD stimulates altered though patterns. one theory i read was that the US govt. was afraid of arming citizens with such devices and so made it highly illegal. other countries followed suit soonafter.
anyway the point being the powers that be are threatened by anything that promotes free thought. alcohol doesnt do this, it makes people rowdy, intoxicated, and generally numbed. from another aspect, look at the old taliban ruled Afghanistan and the outlawing of television sets.
anyone else see the pattern forming...

They just went underground and DIFFERENT GROUPS of society have started using them.
I live in Alice Springs. And you wouldnt BELIEVE how many ppl (of all ages) chase me for acid each week. They choose this over pot and drinking (or more usually a combination)
Which is traditionally the 'cool' thing to do if you're an auusie youngie "in the bush".
(aside from the fact that most country fucks cant get laid without the assistance of some kind of mind altering drug, for one or BOTH parties)
BUT you should try convincing them that they wont IMMEDIATELY DIE if they eat an "E".

The LAST time I got bikkies from home (syd) sent out here, i got to enjoy most of them myself, and only a handful of ppl were interested in going out on the town peaking.
They'd much rather eat four or five(!) trips than risk the BIG BAD MDMA...
Its really quite bizaare considering its quite the exact opposite in big cities today.
I had tried nearly every other drug until about 14months ago * gave me my first *gasp*

its a different set of ppl , in different parts of the world who are now embracing acid and various other psychedelics.
HA HA HA!!! the fun part is trying to explain the mechanics of drugs that have no street name and are referred to by their chemical desigantion, to these counttry drongo's.
The words 2CB... and 5MEO make them shake..
its really a concept or saftey issue..

Thanks K9, You’re right. LSD never went away, but perhaps more than other drugs when availability is limited, it’s who you know. As for why LSD’s so cheap: three main reasons in my opinion.
* The acid syndicates
* Easy to conceal and transport
* The manufacturing. Not easy (like MDMA) but high yielding in relation to number of doses produced
It has been said that a chemist with about $40,000US worth of equipment setup in an apartment building, can produce about 60,000,000 hits (that’s 60 million) in a weekend. (ref: old LSD FAQ, Lyceaum) With newer synthesis methods, the equipment costs could probably by reduced to less than $10K (no HPLC needed)
LSD went through a period just like MDMA seems to be presently. Once there was a time when everyone who was anyone wanted to be able to say they’d tried it. Even Bert Newton (heaven forbid!) tried LSD, in a legal clinical environment of course. He hated the experience, or so he said.
So taking the past glamour period users of LSD out of the equation, as well as the current pockets of city dwelling users, then who is left?
The niche crowd that’s who; always been around, and for who LSD has been the only drug. This crew is still very much alive and well. If your lifestyle is clubbing you may only ever see a glimpse of them. The doofers, the Family, the tribal peoples, have always embraced psychedelics. Many of these people look at clubbers, particularly E users, with a certain sense of pity. For many of them the mystico/ religious experience has to do with nature, in all its glorious and harsh realities. Realities exemplified by LSD, psilocybin, DMT, or salvia.
Psychedelics never went away, although their reduced popularity no doubt stemmed from forces we all know about. Clusters of psychonauts still exist - everywhere. The mere fact that E is an easier drug for the masses to deal with at present helps maintain its current popularity over psychedelics like LSD and psilocybin. It is closer to soma for many.
Psychedelics in their current status are research tools. The name says it all. No longer is LSD (usually) considered the first drug of choice if one is attempting to empathize or connect. It is far too unpredictable. Everyone doing the slightest bit of research will discover this. But ecstasy isn’t so much. Most people get what they expect from the drug. It’s easy and comfortable. For those who detest the urge of opening up – perhaps it’s a feeling of vulnerability – there always speed. Reassuring old amphetamines 8)
Somas of today’s mass/mess society?
Tomorrow’s drug of choice for the masses will probably be not much different in effect than E. It may even be more potent. One thing that is very likely is that it will be less toxic. Surprising maybe, but the compounds exist already and are not too difficult to make. Some of these may be indeed more psychedelic than E, but unless the ride is smooth, it is unlikely they will be the next wave. People like comfort, anaesthetization, and temporary relief.
Psychedelics are generally confronting. An Inner travel and unravel. Not the same as a few beers and an E with friends on a Friday night. Of course there will always be the crew who will do anything for the moment. But generally speaking, I doubt the next wave will be psychedelic by principle, as much as emphatically energetic with less health consequences. Unless of course it’s based upon a GHB related compound, and then who knows what may be the then preferred flavour of love.
Just re-read your post Tabernacle and I guess you have a point regarding any future cultural revolution. People may choose to be less safety bound. But with the mass of information available today that wasn’t in the sixties to the average user, I think if comfort is a choice, by the masses it’s usually taken.
 
Lets not forget that MDMA isn't that expensive to produce, it's only expensive to import. In the UK you can pick up pills for under A$5 a pop.
I personally couldn't hit the acid too much since it just lasts too damn long and the comedown effects my work too much. With pills you can go out on a Sat, feel a big knackered on Sun, but be back at work by Mon. On acid your tripping all weekend, and confused as fuck for the first 3 days of work.
 
I guess I'm lucky, but for me acid has always been the most wonderful experience. Dark or light its always beneficial.
And the comedown?! Ahh the wonderful comedown when the world glows, I have a new found appreciation of life and everything is finally as it should be.

I'd like to second the last sentiments, if i had a choice of drug with work the next day then i'd definately choose acid. After it i feels as if i have recharged my soul, always learning something about myself and the world in which i dwell. It's a magical experience and sure as hell beats feeling like a serotonin deprived unicellular slime mould the next day.

Just b/c you can get 'pills' cheaper in the UK doesnt indicate that its cheaper to produce.
It also doesnt mean that the quality.
When i was living in Sydney, all the british nationals & tourist alike would sing the same tune about their drugs.
"fuck you guys get the best shit over here. Back home in London there are so many more pills and the ratio of bunk/bad quality ones is sky high.. We pay less but we get shit more times out of ten"
I do believe that the general defined market price and the import costs push E prices up in Oz.
Think about it: if you import crap. no one will buy it (at least not for long), no repeat business, at high cost to yourself.
Being somewhere central like UK, where Amsterdam and belgium and other high E producing places are a stoines throw away. Every other man and his dog (and his clogs) are making pills with Whatever in them..
Indeed i think that most of our shit pills are made cheap as chips locally (the term we have come to love: "locals") and our higher demand and importing of quailty has push the price up.
There are many methods of producing MDXX material. None of them are 'cheap'.
But the price is comparable to that of making E.

With regard to the actual differences of experience, I'll have to say that I DO NOT LIKE THE ACID TRIP.
and 'yet'.. Its a substance that i LOVE TO HATE.. does anyone else level with me here?
I always regret doing acid as soon as I've taken it. in any amount.
I make myself enjoy the trip for a while, i HATE the "STOP THE TRAIN I WANT TO GET OFF" period ***(Praise GOD for CODEINE!!)***
and the next day I SWEAR BLINDLY that I will NEVER take acid again..
Yet sure enough ive come to know myself well enough to know that in a couple of weeks time i'll be contemplating tripping once more..

E for me is comforting, its 'acute' enough to be used on a weeknight of i see fit. (I do NOT do this often, but STILL, the option is there)
If i trip I HAVE to plan it to be on a friday night cos I know that I will be FUCT all night, USELESS most of saturday, CONFUSED and MISPLACED well into saturday night I'll be *WANG*.
I'll be recovering still on sunday morning when i can finally bring myself to live normal life and face ppl.
And its off to work on monday morning..
If i do it ONE DAY LATER, I'm fuct for work on monday..
Given. I take huge amounts of acid when i do, but still i've had small amounts and the effect is the same.
I feel in summing, that "I do E - Acid does ME" (i like what was said above about strong psychadelics being rather 'confronting')
So I personally choose E over Acid anyday but like i said, I'm really FULL OF SHIT cos I know that this weekend i've planned on meeting SID once more.. ha ha ha...
For some there is no redemption hey..
I'll be whingin and whinining about how much i hate acid come 2moro nite's movie when i cant figure out whats going on... (LAF)

Also i can understand ppl like Tabernacle who really DO enjoy acid more, and get the whole 'enlightened' exprerience. with no bad effects to speak much of.
Unfortunately that doesnt happen to me.. :(

Unless a project is legit, mentioning here someone has possession of, or has extracted a controlled precursor should be considered an absolute no no.
It’s just that a lot of work is put into catching cooks - a lot. The reason I have no problems mentioning such chemical stuff, is that I do not do any such illegal things, and don't know anyone directly who is planning to or is cooking. Nor do I wish to know. Too much at stake. Exciting maybe, but for me, not worth any risk of association.
I'm sure your friend is able to extract and isolate this constituent. It is not hard. As for LSD. If someone was really keen, there is a prescription drug once prescribed quite freely for migraine which is virtually 2 steps from acid. Mind you, they would need to know their lab technique. It would definitely sort the kitchen cooks from the alchemists ;)

I must agree with what everyone has said. No one is attacking you, they're looking out for you. Even if you don't have any contact with this guy, ask yourself 'Is it in my best interests to be on a drug squad list?'
 
seriously im not fussed considering im already ON twhatever systme they ahve already regarding two incidents in sep & nov 2001.

And trip toys and things to keep one occupied make it less painful for me..
I'd like to say "more enjoyable" BUT as i've mentioned it really isnt one of THOSE kinds of experiences for me...

You dont have to do anything on acid. I was thinking about this on the weekend. Acid isn't a drug you take to make you feel something, like booze or pills or something. It's something you take then go about your everyday life, and view that everyday life in a different manner.
Take a trip, and walk to the shops, play computer games, watch TV, hell, lock urself in a quiet, dark room by yourself and see what your mind can come up with.
There is no wrong or right way to do acid, I know it's all set/setting but there is no script on what that should be. Trip toys, doing shamanistic voyages, raves etc. are all great things for acid. But so is sitting in a room with a few mates on a saturday nite chatting.

I also love the idea that LSD is so "context sensitive" (as physcologists would say), it has made it my drug of choice (so far ;) ). The empathy and "plur" that is created by a close group of people on acid seems to me to be much more 'real' than if they were all just pilling and being 'forced' to be nice.
This is why I psychedelics like LSD should be slowly intergrated into our society. There is no forcing of a certain mindset on LSD, you mearly become more suggestive to internal and external stimulus and environments. Imagine a religious service (if you are that way inclined) when under the influnce of LSD... It would be literally mindblowing.
I remember reading in McKenna that back in the day a group of christians were all given mushrooms, knowing what they were, and about 80% of them said that they had touched with 'god' in a much deeper and profound way than they ever have, strengthening their faith. I think the Vatican got upset with this as it diminished the importance of the church. If people could "find god" by themselves and within themselves via the aid of shrooms, the whole concept of modern religion would have dissolved.
I've never really understood the (legal, moral or whatever) reasoning behind the criminialising of psychedelics... would someone care to explain it here?
 
I can't believe K9's post isn't deleted yet, unbelievable. I really don't think that addition had really any relevance to this particular thread.
Anyway, IMHO psychadelics have never left us and there are more and more people enjoying the enlightening experience of dropping LSD.
Perhaps not the mind opening and public experience it made in the 60's and 70's, but you also need to look at what type of society the drug was introduced too, these were people coming out of the very prudish 50's and early 60's -- I mean c'mon .. naked ankles were considered a no no FFS!
In the much more open minded (comparitvley) and accepting era that we current live I'm encouraged to think that there are MORE people trying the drug, with use certainly growing.

"Chupa-Chup" had always told me 'go tripping by yourself Caine' cos she knew how much i loved to hate the drug..
I ate about 7, and i HAD THE BEST TIME. I didnt feel #BLAH# the next day. i got the best sleep later on.
Admittedly i was COMPLETELY BLOTTO, but i spent a lage portion of the night tlaking to Kitty as I was coming up and i assume we both kept each other entertained for quite some time.
Must completey be set and setting, cos i didnt disappear into a weird world of no consciousness only to have to hear about my antics the next day.
I remember most of it. Including my TV growing fur. It was mad mad mad. So, i now concede, a fun time can be had on acid.
I loved it. Which is what matters.
 
my initial use of drugs outside of alcohol and cannabis started with LSD... i was an avid fan of the substance for a period after, however i reached a point where i did not enjoy acid how i used to...
i dont really do the stuff now, i definately prefer mdma/mda over it anyway, definately got no "magic" like it used to... i prefer it in smaller quantities to enhance other drugs, rather than relying on it to "trip"
2 years i could have bought an acid trip on the street from some shady drug dealer anyday of the week... these days its al pills, powder, pills
just recently tho i have seen a resurgence of an interest in the substance, maybe itll make a small comeback?
perhaps research chems are the future, 2cb was readily available on the streets here for about 3 months strait (being sold as 2cb too, not slang)
