So with all the publicity that bath salts and spice have brought to the scene, does anyone else feel that something along the lines of operation web tryp will happen again? Well not if but when?
What got me thinking was a pdf I happened to stumble across on Google from the dea:
http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/mtgs/drug_chemical/2011/boos.pdf
Sorry if linking to the dea website isn't a good idea, but there are some very revealing things, if not at the very least interesting tidbits.
What leads me to believe there prepping for another web tryp, is the temporary scheduling actions.
On #20 it outlines:
Harm to public safety -->
Placed 5 synthetic cannabinoids in schedule 1 -->
1 year to formally place in CSA -->
Provided for prosecution of CS analogues
But as soon as they make it illegal they change the product and just use another substance? Well as longs as they can connect these products to "exposure incidents" like police encounters and mdia reports, they will treat it like a shcedule 1 substance via analog laws.
Then there is a big slide outlining designer drugs. It lists the various classes, then colors the name red if it's controlled, yellow if it’s an isomer and controlled by definition, and green if it’s a confirmed analog. These confirmed analogs are going to be targeted and they'll prosecute them under the analog law, if not schedule them completly.
2C-D, 2C-E, mipt, and 5-meo-dpt are potential isomers and controlled by definition.
Also JWH-018 is , unsurprisingly, appearing in spice products post scheduling.
So be careful with these chemicals and spice.
2C-I, 2c-T-2, DOI, 2c-e, 2c-d, and doc are also under review and likely to be scheduled very soon.
Also I'd expect the analog act to be much more strictly enforced in the future.
I thought it was interesting, and I bet this or next year we'll see a huge crackdown in the substances they mention in this report.
