8) Hi,
I have a question I have posted a few times, but no response. I'm on 25mcg Fent for chonic pain, I use them as directed and they are (greatfully) working. I also get 20ml oxys with no acetametaphine due to Hep C, but I have been taking to many, if I start weening down from 80ml to 60ml then stay at 40ml will my Fent patch help with the oxy WD. So far it has not. It seems with such a strong medication as the Fent Patch I should not be sick. I mean If I have to be sick for awhile over the pain I have, No brainer I will just be sick.

I just cant understand why the Fent even know I dont feel it except, I have a lot less pain, why it works the way it does?

Ok last try for this question, but it's going to bug the snit right out of me. I am the kinda girl who needs to know why?
Oh and I sure am not going ask my Doc......heeeeheeeee

Peace

Hi fallenangel3,
I will try to help you but I need more info. Also, so you know, I am a retired doctor. I stopped practicing due to chronic pain. I have been taking fentanyl for over 6 years. Before that I took everything from tylenol w/ codeine to morphine in all sorts of combinations. If you still want my help, just answer a few questions.
1. How long have you been on the fent patch?
2. The oxy your on, what exactly is it and what dose? It seems like your using liquid at 20 mg/m, yes and why? There is faat acting oxy & long acting. How long have you been using oxy?
3. What other meds are you on and what condition do you have? Approximately your height, weight & age? I'm not just being nose, it's all relevant.

I await your reply,

markdoc

Opiates stack up. It doesn't matter in what form they come, they are all essentially the same. If you have been using your fentanyl patch as intended while also using oxy you will need more opiates. I am confused by your ML measurments, are you doing liquid dosing of pills or did you just get milligram (mg) confused with milliliter (ml)?

40mg oxycodone oral is equal to a 20.5 mcg/h fentanyl according to this converter http://www.globalrph.com/fent.cgi. This means to supplement your oxy habit fully you would probably have to add a whole other patch of the same strength (25mcg/h). Maybe a bit less with cross tolerance reduction.

If you were taking the fentanyl patches while raising your oxy dose then the fent wont cover you r oxy decrease as your tolerance has been already raised (if you get what I mean.lol).
Basically, you will have to take more fent to cover the oxy decrease but since fent isnt a drug you want to do experimental dosing with, I would suggest just lowering the oxy very slowly (should be easier if you get a liquid preparation) until you get to the dose you want. There will be an increase in pain for a couple of weeks but it will settle down eventually.
I cant stress enough how dangerous messing with your fent dose can be, it is NOT a forgiving opioid.

@markdoc, welcome to bluelight.
Always good to have a medical professional onboard...although telling us bluelighters your a doctor might have been an error, you are aware that theres a large number of drug users with bad health anxiety lurking around here , right?lmao

Thanks for the heads up, but I don't mind. I can't hang around for long because I've got a severe chronic pain condition and it's difficult to concentrate a lot of the time. Fallenangle3 said no one had answered her before, so I thought I'd try and help her. But I need to know more about her situation before adding my 2 cents. ?

@markdoc, no problem, your very welcome.
Have you checked out the chronic pain megathread? Its in the Other Drugs forum and is where people go to chat about (and gain advice on) their chronic pain issues. It always has alot of traffic so it must be pretty good.lol

Thanks once more for the info. I think I'll check out the other thread. It doesn't seem like Fallenangel3 wants my help anyway. I'll get notified if she does so I might be back. I constantly check the net for new info on fentanyl and/or CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) with Google. It's a great way to get the latest info on anything. Thanks once more and best wishes.
