Tonight I used after trying to go cold turkey today was supposed to be my third day of sobriety, but I failed myself again. I keep asking myself will I remain sober and strong this time but the I work and get cash in my hand and what do I do? I blow it like usual. If you have friendly advice on how to overcome this feel free to chime in. Thank you.

Welcome to bluelight. Do not beat yourself up about how you used after 3 days. It takes time to get sober and stop the habit of using drugs.

Do you have a savings account, or checking account? Put your paycheck into that instead of buying drugs. Also, some people find NA and therapy to be helpful when overcoming addiction. I am moving this to sober living.

Happend to everyone on this forum bro. Including myself millions of times with subs not even cold turkey- you are strong for going that long. Keep trying but be as serious as you can about it. Did you ever look into suboxone? Day 4 for me. You can do it homie.

Going cold turkey just isn't a recipe for success. The science and anecdotal evidence bears this out pretty clearly. Go to a detox or get some detox meds.

agreed. unless you're in jail I think people have much higher chance of success by using something to help, even if it's just some pot.

Would have to agree with the above poster. Eventually it will come to the front of your thoughts if it hasn't already. It's best to replace addiction with another hobby and buzz, exercise is good. But it's not a practical thing to subdue you at night, pot is, and is less harmful than benzos or Z type drugs.

Well said! Detoxing or tapering SHOULD be medically supervised. Seizures are not uncommon when you stop using cold turkey. You could be driving, holding your kid, etc. I use these examples because it's happened to me. In addition to your physical body needing guardianship, your mental health should be closely monitored too.

It took a two month rehab after a seven day detox for this "chronic relapser"

Don't beat yourself up over a false start. As it has been said, if you have been on opiates for a while these will happen.

I suggest you talk to your doctor about it, maybe do a rapid suboxone detox then go into some sort of program, even if it is intensive out patient. It just ups your chance of success. Anything you can do to up that success rate is a plus.

Agreed. Ripping chemicals that your body has more or less become accustomed to having as a part of your system that it (thinks) it requires to function........

Not a great way to go about quitting. Some people feel the need to punish themselves for the addiction.

But take a moment to consider the scientific element (as crimsonjunk) mentioned.
Taper. Ween. Whatever you'd like to call it, just back of slowly.

The most important thing that I see at play here is that you WANT to get healthy and you are making an effort.

this!!!!! It took me four years of trying different things to get any sort of lasting sobriety. I did have to ween myself down in order to stop because the shock that withdrawals have on the body is just too much. The most salient point to this is I did not give up. I kept trying till it worked. My attitude was never of defeat, but of experimentation. Each time I slipped up, or binged, I learned something new that didn't work, or I found out something that worked to stop me. Are there any addiction specialists where you are located? These people can be very helpful in mitigating your withdrawals. Also, if you have a script for your taper meds it will keep you from having to detox in jail.

Don't beat yourself up..becoming addicted takes time so recovery will also be a time consuming project..the important thing is u do not get discouraged and keep your mind on the prize..if u are gonna relapse u might as well enjoy the buzz and don't beat yourself up
